The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is seeking a dynamic & multi skilled candidate to join its office in Pretoria, South Africa, as a Research Officer \u2013 Gender, Social Inclusion and Youth.

The successful candidate will primarily contribute to and conduct research on gender, youth, and social inclusion as part of the Ukama Ustawi Initiative. The incumbent is expected to assist in planning, designing, and executing research for development (R4D) related to gender and social inclusion issues within water, land, food, and energy systems. The role involves providing focused support for gender and social inclusion research, coordinating and engaging with diverse partners and stakeholders, and disseminating research findings to target audiences.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, design, and implement research on gender, social inclusion, disability, and youth in water resources management. Prepare journal articles, progress reports, research reports, policy briefs, and blogs. Proactively support IWMI's efforts to establish and strengthen partnerships and networks with the public and private sectors, community institutions, women's and youth organizations, enabling gender and social transformative actions in water and natural resource sectors. Provide gender and social inclusion technical input for proposal development. Support the dissemination of IWMI's research findings and impacts at local, national, and international conferences and other public forums. Coordinate with relevant Project Leaders, Research Group Leaders, and Strategic Program Directors at IWMI and project partners/work package leads during the preparation of journal articles, research reports, and blogs. Coordinate with the Program Management Office, Human Resources, Administration/Finance, and Communications and Knowledge Management, as well as other relevant departments of IWMI, to ensure necessary support and guidance related to research project management. Maintain good working relationships with IWMI\u2019s partners in Southern Africa, including government, development partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, research institutions, and other stakeholders. Regularly interact with national and regional networks, partners, and stakeholders. Represent IWMI in policy, science, and practice-related knowledge forums and meetings in Southern Africa.

Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Master's degree in a social science discipline, gender studies, sociology, human geography, anthropology, development studies, or closely related fields. 2-3 years of proven experience and technical competence in working on gender and social inclusion research design and implementation. Demonstrated experience in producing peer-reviewed journal articles. Experience in developing concept notes and research proposals on water, food, energy, and land resources with a focus on gender and social inclusion perspectives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Essential

Ability to deliver research outputs according to the research project's work plan. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Familiarity with transformational gender methodologies and their implementation. Good understanding of development policy and institutional issues related to water resources management, irrigation, agrarian livelihoods, migration, and youth engagement in Southern Africa. Capacity to produce high-quality reports in English. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex issues clearly to diverse stakeholders. Excellent oral and written language skills in English, including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Desirable

Familiarity with the Gender Action Learning System (GALS). Proficiency in social science qualitative data analysis tools. Ability and willingness to travel as required.

This is a nationally recruited position and only Ghanaian nationals will be considered. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of three years.
