OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME AND IMMEDIATE STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

The SRMNCAH Programme aims to assist the Zambian government in developing, implementing, and evaluating policies for Reproductive, Maternal and Newborn Health (RMNH) for Universal Health Coverage. Aligned with the Global Strategy for Womenโ€™s, Childrenโ€™s, and Adolescentsโ€™ Health (2016-2030), the program supports the government in reducing mortality and morbidity, guided by WHO norms. The ultimate goal is to ensure universal access to high-quality health services and improve the impact of interventions through resilient health systems.

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

This position, within the ULC Cluster, supports the Zambian government in RMNH programs, ensuring integration into robust health systems. The incumbent collaborates with the three levels of the WHO offices, government bodies, universities, NGOs, and other partners, providing technical support for Maternal and Neonatal Health. The role also involves intra and inter cluster collaboration, proactive participation in capacity building, advocacy, and resource mobilization, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNED DUTIES

โ€ขย Build the capacity of program managers and health care providers on safe and comprehensive abortion care (CAC) servicesย ย 

โ€ขย Generate data, conduct analytics and policy briefs on reproductiveย organ cancers such as cervical Cancer.ย 

โ€ขย Provide technical support to the MOH for improved access to quality Maternal Health (Antenatal Care (ANC), Delivery and Post natal care (PNC)) and Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) services in Zambia.ย ย 

โ€ขย Monitor the implementation progress of the National Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE, formally National Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) and Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (EPMM)) plans and conduct review and planning with stakeholders.ย ย 

โ€ขย Support the National Technical Working Group for Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) to analyze data, develop a national report and policy briefs, and design an all-level response plan.ย ย

โ€ขDesign and conduct supervisions, review, monitoring and evaluation of reproductive health programs in Zambia.ย ย 

โ€ขDocument best practices in SRMNH program in collaboration with the national safe motherhood and Quality of Care technical working groups, and others as needed.ย ย 

โ€ขย Conduct implementation and operations research from inception to dissemination and ensure use of evidence for programmatic decision.ย ย 

โ€ขย Perform additional tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor or WHO Representative, including providing administrative or technical backup support when needed.

Education

Essential:

โ€ขMedical or health related degree with a post-graduate degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology or Pediatrics and Child Health, or public health.

Desirable:

โ€ขTraining in Leadership and management, program/project management, monitoring and evaluation

Experience

Essential:

โ€ขย At least five yearsโ€™ experience at the national level planning, implementing, managing and evaluating programmes relevant to this post (Reproductive Health, Maternal Health, or Newborn Health,)

Desirable:

โ€ขField experience complemented by experience in negotiating, developing and maintaining effective partnerships and creating harmonized synergies and approaches. Experience in intergovernmental agencies or the UN System.

Use of Language Skills

โ€ขย Excellent knowledge of English

Other Skills (e.g. IT)
