Terms of ReferenceThe Reintegration Intern will be based within the Sustainable Responses Service.

The Sustainable Response Service, situated at UNHCR Headquarters, plays a critical enabling and cross-cutting role. It works to accelerate solutions by supporting reintegration, inclusion, self-reliance of forcibly displaced persons and host communities through government-led, medium-term, and development-aligned approaches. It promotes inclusion across sectors and enhance economic opportunities to advance the objectives of the Global Compact on Refugees and contribute to broader recovery and development goals.

The Reintegration Intern will contribute to analysing activities related to the reintegration of refugee returnees in the context of countries of origin. The intern will gain exposure to practices that bridge humanitarian and development responses and support the transition from displacement to durable solutions. Reporting to the Reintegration Officer, the intern will engage in work that may engage other teams at headquarters, regional offices, and country operations, given the cross-cutting nature of reintegration efforts and UNHCR’s collaboration with development actors.

Through this internship, the selected candidate will: (i) develop a deeper understanding of the international legal frameworks, policies underpinning UNHCR’s interventions, operational areas and advocacy with development actors; and (ii) strengthen key professional competencies such as research, writing, analysis, project and time management, prioritization, teamwork, presentation, and drafting skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support follow-up to the Multi-Stakeholder Pledge on Secure Housing, Land and Property (HLP) Rights to advance Reintegration & Inclusion, including monitoring progress and drafting reports;
- Contribute to data mapping and gap analysis related to UNHCR’s reintegration efforts and their alignment with national systems and development investments.
- Assist in identifying and documenting promising practices, lessons learned, and innovative models of sustainable reintegration across countries and regions;
- Support the continuous development of the Reintegration knowledge platform, including the online repository and community of practice;
- Help coordinate webinars and knowledge exchanges on sustainable responses with focus on the countries of origin and reintegration of refugees;
- Assist in updating country factsheets/profiles on reintegration programming and outcomes;
- Support preparations for internal and external consultations, including agenda setting and follow-up on action points;
- Support in drafting reporting and external communication products, including talking points, briefing notes, and newsletters;
- Assist with research and drafting inputs to events, publications, and presentations;
- Perform other related tasks as needed.

Minimum qualifications required:
- Strong analytical and drafting skills;
- Knowledge of UNHCR’s mandate, international refugee and/or human rights law is desirable;
- Ability to work independently, as well as within a team;
- Good time management skills;
- Strong computer skills. Graphic design skills an advantage;
- Fluency in oral and written English. Knowledge of French is desirable.

Eligibility:
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.

An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.

Allowance:
Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
