Work LocationRemotely Expected duration2 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground Within the framework of the Arab Climate Change Capacity Building Project, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Somalia, is organizing a โCapacity Building Workshop on Sustainable Energy Transition Across sectors in Arab LDCsโ, on 28-29 April 2025, in Mogadishu, Somalia. The two-day workshop focuses on the socio-economic and financial tools for advancing climate ambition and a sustainable energy transition. Duties and responsibilities The regional expert shall substantively contribute to the design of the workshopโs agenda including the definition of the topics to be covered. Consequently, the Expert shall provide substantive services to prepare the presentations needed to deliver the workshop for the aspects related to policy frameworks and regulations to upscaling the uptake of energy efficiency and preparing sustainable energy projectsโ pipelines and plans. The training materials shall be split into several modules and shall be composed of an optimal mix of theoretical and practical knowledge as well as real-life case studies and best practices and tools that facilitate the understanding and application of the knowledge and skills to be acquired. Qualifications/special skillsA masterโs degree or higher degree in energy engineering, energy economics, or related field is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. At least 10 years of work experience in the fields including experience in policy advise and regulations in renewable energy and energy efficiency in the Arab region is required. Excellent communication skills is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint is required. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required. Fluency of French is desirable.
