This position is located in the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) in Brussels, within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Strategic Communications Division (SCD), Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UNRIC Brussels is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs), which are the principal source of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located. Overall, UNICs are responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating UN information materials to a local audience in local language; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the people it serves.The UNRIC provides information services to Andorra, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland,France, Germany, Greece, the Holy See, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco,the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The incumbent is under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of the UNRIC Brussels and reports directly to a Public Information Officer.Responsibilities
• Provides specialized assistance in the production and delivery of information communications products and services, to include support to the Public Information Officer in charge of the Benelux Desk at UNRIC and/or visiting UN officials, translation of materials,media monitoring, media support, etc. Researches a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; compile and present information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services for external audiences.
• Serves as an information focal point on UNRIC media engagement activities and coordinates media coverage of important events; compiles, produces and distributes to journalists basic information on the wide spectrum of these activities open to the press; briefs relevant parties on policies and procedures governing media coverage of the UN,clearance/accreditation requirements, etc.; liaises with news and publications agencies, public relations firms, UN photographers, etc. to provide advance notice of, and information on,upcoming meetings, briefings and special events and to ascertain coverage requirements;coordinates logistic and technical arrangements/requests and organizes and allocates space for visiting news, photo, TV and film personnel; researches, evaluates and processes applications for UN security clearances/accreditation and control media access to press briefings, etc.;serves as Accreditation and Liaison Officer for UN conferences held away from Headquarters in the Benelux. Organizes and executes special events in the Benelux coordinating with diverse partners and the media to highlight and publicize key events. Handles administrative
coordination in support of special training and other programmes.
• Oversees the distribution of UNRIC audio and video materials related to the work of the UN in the Benelux; ensures the good management of the film/video archives, and the proper safekeeping/preservation of historical audio/visual materials.
• Oversees the day-to-day marketing activities to promote the work of the UN in the Benelux, working closely with the audio/visual webmaster to ensure successful branding techniques;
undertakes proactive promotional activities to build a client base and nurture relationships; produces a wide range of promotional products; and develops data collection mechanisms to gather data on the audience and end-users of UNRIC audio/visual products.
• Produces and edits short UNRIC video projects, radio programmes, and short website projects related to UN priorities with a particular focus on content relevant for audiences in the Benelux countries.: researches diverse print and electronic information sources for topics and materials for projects; suggests ideas on content, narration texts, audio excerpts,design elements, etc.; selects and catalogues sound/ visual materials and evaluates quality forinclusion in productions, and obtains requisite clearances and copyrights; prepares detailed"shot lists" of video and film material; transcribes audio materials available only on audio format, etc.
• Identifies and prepares new material in French and Dutch for inclusion in appropriate webpages and official social media accounts by: researching various information sources for relevant material and cross-checking information with author offices as required; identifying,retrieving and downloading pertinent documentation and other information, inserting into database after determining appropriate categorization; editing documents to conform to UN format, structure and style and preparing new pages, incorporating graphics as needed, using appropriate authoring tools; preparing and updating index of documents; posting documents on the appropriate UNRIC web platform, ensuring the appropriate directory location; checking and testing for errors, etc.
• Generates specific social media content and campaigns for a variety of platforms; updates website and official social media accounts; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases. Provides guidance and training to junior staff, individual contractors,and/or interns.
• Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of experience in public information, communication, journalism, international relations or related area is required.
Experience working with social media tools, video and photo editing tools and/or mobile applications etc. is required.
Experience writing for the web and/or other communication platforms is required.
Experience working with government, media, and civil society partners from the Benelux is desirable.
Experience providing communications support to an office of the United Nations common system or a comparable international organization is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both English and French is required. Fluency in Dutch is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.

This position is temporarily available as soon as possible for a duration of six (6) months with a possibility of extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United

Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat.
