DRC has been operating in the Middle East (ME) region for over a decade, running a combination of emergency, livelihood, protection and advocacy programmes through Country Offices (COs) in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey with a Regional Office (RO) in Amman.

Throughout its nine field offices and a workforce of 450 staff, DRC upholds its main programmatic objectives to provide immediate and life sustaining assistance, to strengthen the protective environment, and to reduce displacement related risks and vulnerabilities by promoting self-reliance at household and community level.

About the job

The Protection Coordinator is responsible for the strategic development and technical supervision of DRCโ€™s protection programming through technical guidance,support, oversight, strategy development, resources, capacity development, and representation. The Protection Coordinator is ultimately responsible for the overall quality and impact of the programme. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:.



ยท Lead on the Protection Strategy and integrating with other sector strategies to contribute to cohesive country program strategy

ยท Develop and undertake assessments to inform program design and strategic direction.

ยท Draft project workplans and coordinate implementation of projects

ยท Develop and review program resources such as SOPs, tools and forms, Individualized Protection Assistance (IPA), case management, legal assistance, ensuring adherence to global standards

ยท Provide technical guidance to programme staff to ensure consistency and quality programming

ยท Explore and develop program partners.

ยท Quality control through monitoring visits, trainings, meeting.


ยท Represent DRC with external stakeholders, including humanitarian partners, donors, authorities, etc. on ongoing protection needs, trends, and programming as DRCโ€™s focal person

ยท In coordination with the Head of Programme, collaborate with the different entities and focal points within DRC at the regional and global level on programmatic issues related to protection, as well as in consortia

ยท Actively participate in the exchange of best practice and resources and contribute to the program development

Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning

ยท In coordination with the Quality Assurance department develop tools for the effective implementation of the protection projects through defining clear programmatic needs and objectives

ยท Monitor programme objectives, outputs, indicators and activities โ€“ ensuring team remain on track as per agreed donor commitments

ยท Ensure learning from the protection programme contributes to knowledge building and sharing

Grants Management

ยท Work closely with the Head of Programme and the Grants Manager to secure strategic funding opportunities and develop proposals based on identified gaps and needs

ยท In coordination with the Grants Department produce quality reports to ensure accurate, coherent and timely reporting.

Human Resources and Staff Development

ยท Provide technical support on the recruitment and management of protection staff, including developing Terms of Reference (ToRs), staffing plan, participate in recruitment processes and performance evaluations.

ยท Support the professional development of protection staff

ยท Facilitate capacity building for team members and partners to develop protection expertise including coaching, capacity building, mentoring, and supervision

ยท Any other tasks as delegated by Head of Programme

Required experience and competencies

About you

ยท Minimum 3 years progressive experience in the protection sector for an INGO

ยท Experience in at least two areas of specialization in protection (e.g. case management, child protection, gbv, etc.)

ยท Demonstrable experience in capacity building of national staff in protection


ยท Masters degree in relevant field
