5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Background:

Background informationย

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women in Georgia supports state and non-state partners towards the achievement of substantive gender equality in Georgia. In line with national and international commitments, UN Women works on the levels of policy and legislation, institutions and grassroots, in order to achieve transformative results for increased gender equality and greater protection of the rights of women and girls.

Within the framework of its Governance &ย Participation in Public Life (G&PPL) portfolio, UN Women, with the generous support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) launched a four-year project โ€œWomenโ€™s Increased Leadership for Democracy in Georgiaโ€ (WILD) in April 2023. The impact-level goal of the project is to ensure that women and girls in all their diversity fully and equally participate in decision-making and benefit from gender-responsive governance in Georgia. In order to contribute to the achievement of this impact-level goal, the project sets forth two interlinked outcomes, which are as follows - outcome 1: Women and their organizations in all their diversity are engaged in and influence political life and decision-making at all levels in Georgia; and outcome 2: Gender equality and womenโ€™s meaningful participation and leadership at all levels is promoted through adoption and implementation of gender-responsive legislative and policy frameworks and practices. ย

Within the framework of the project, inter alia, UN Women supports a broad range of awareness-raising initiatives to transform adverse gender norms and attitudes that hinder womenโ€™s political empowerment. In line with these efforts, in 2023 UN Women contracted the National Center of Manuscripts to research and collect stories about the historic role and contribution of Georgian women to the countryโ€™s political, social and cultural life via achieves preserved within the Center. As a result, the National Center of Manuscripts has developed A compilation of stories depicting the role of Georgian women from 19th and 20th centuries with focus on Georgiaโ€™s plight for independence. Aligned with these efforts, UN Women plans to hire a National Consultant. ย The objective of the consultancy is to peer review and edit publication developed by the National Center of Manuscripts in a way that would enable UN Women to publish it as a book.ย

The consultant will be reporting UN Women G&PPL Programme Specialist, G&PPL Project Analyst and will be supported by the G&PPL Project Assistant, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.
