Main purpose of the role

The CIFF Climate team envisions a climate-safe future, dedicated to the swift global transition to a zero-carbon society.

This dynamic role focuses on managing CIFF\u2019s global transportation work, developing strategy, developing and managing grants, representing CIFF in funder collaborations, and fostering partnerships within the transportation ecosystem. Reporting to the Director of Cities & Built Environment, Transport, Air Quality, and Cooling the role involves collaboration across regions and with climate finance colleagues to develop solutions for zero-carbon transportation. With a growing portfolio, the position requires expertise in strategy development, program management and ideally working in/with NGOs in the global transportation sector,

Role Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning:

Lead the development of program strategies and evidence base, collaborating with the climate team and regional leads in areas such as shipping, heavy duty vehicles, overall electrification and supporting in the area of aviation. Develop and ultimately manage global investments in transportation Network extensively to identify funding needs and accelerate decarbonisation in the transportation sector. Shape high-impact strategies with funders and NGO partners, supporting the development of the global ecosystem.

Program Development, Delivery & Performance:

Oversee a portfolio of live programs and grants. Contribute to the development and delivery of regional strategies, building strong relationships with regional leads. Lead accountability for program performance, conducting reviews and instigating corrective actions. Drive the development of grant agreements and ensure effective grant management and reporting.

Sector Knowledge & Profile-Building:

Be CIFF's expert on global trends in the decarbonisation of the transportation sector. Contribute to thought leadership, PR, marketing, and advocacy materials to support CIFF's initiatives.

Stakeholder and Partner Management:

Work directly with CIFF's CEO and Executive Director to support interactions with funders and grantees. Conduct rigorous research and evaluation of potential grantees, maintaining productive relationships with partners and stakeholders.

Membership and Leadership:

Be a role model to less experienced team members, demonstrating leadership behaviours and providing mentorship. Adopt a coaching approach, instilling a culture of openness, trust, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

Skills & Experience:

Experienced leader in transportation and other sectors, with a mix of private/public/NGO experience. Proven expertise in analysis, due diligence, policy, planning, and program delivery in the climate or public policy sectors. Results-based delivery experience and a belief in evidence-based decision-making. Innovative and entrepreneurial thinker with relationship-building skills. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English. Capacity to work in diverse cultural, political, and socio-economic contexts. Proven self-starter with the ability to work with pace and resilience.

Key Working Relationships:

CIFF Climate Directors, Executive Director, Climate, and Investment Committee members. Other CIFF teams, external stakeholders, national governments, and NGO partners.

Management Dimensions:

Over time, responsibility for a personal portfolio of $15-30 million and strategic alignment across an indirect portfolio of $30-50 million. Represent CIFF on Advisory Committees and Grants Committees as appropriate. Potential line management of team members, as required.

Benefits

The starting salary for this role is GBP 63,790

CIFF operates a hybrid work policy across all locations, which means employees works some of the time from home. We are happy to provide more information on this as part of the recruitment process.

Alongside a competitive salary, we offer a generous benefits package here at CIFF that includes, but is not limited to the following. All these will be prorated to the fixed term.
