WFP'S MANDATE AND INTERVENTIONS IN MADAGASCAR

In Madagascar, WFP is supporting the government's efforts through an assistance strategy to respond to the humanitarian emergency, strengthen community resilience and support sustainable development efforts. In collaboration with government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and UN system partners, WFP, organizes cash or in-kind transfers to meet the food needs of families affected by climatic hazards, provides school meals that promote access to education for girls and boys, supports the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, and provides technical and financial support to groups of small agricultural producers to improve their production and access to the market.

WFP also provides the air transport service, ensuring safe, reliable and cost-effective transport for humanitarian and development actors to other parts of Madagascar.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:

These jobs are likely to be found in Headquarters (HQ), Regional Bureaux (RBs) or Country Offices (COs). In the field, role holders typically report to the Head of Field Office or the designate. In RBs and HQ, job holders report to a more senior Logistics Officer. Job holders are likely to be working closely with a more experienced professional staff member receiving guidance and regular feedback on work performed.

JOB PURPOSE:

To collect, analyse and report on information to maximise efficiency of the logistics operations and activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

  1. Contribute towards the development of logistics plans and processes ensuring compliance with wider logistics policies and WFP standards.
  2. Support logistics projects or operational day-to-day activities following standard processes and contributing, directly or indirectly, to the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
  3. Provide specialised expertise, technical support and advice, in order to support shipping projects and activities, following standard processes and contributing to effective shipment operations.
  4. . Coordinate shipment monitoring at load and discharge ports, ensuring corporate systems are regularly updated with shipment progress, high quality of information and reporting and resolution/escalation of issues encountered.
  5. Collect and analyse data through research and networking with colleagues to recommend actions to the supervisor to improve performance of local logistics operations.
  6. Participate and support supervisors in risk mitigation activities, as well as in the creation and monitoring of risk registers including checking and verifying shipment data and/or documents, identifying and resolving risk-related issues, escalating them to the supervisor and suggesting risk-mitigating measures.
    1. Conduct portions of financial analysis and budget reviews, drawing out insights and recommending actions to the supervisor to optimise use of available funds.
    2. Collate data and contribute to preparation of accurate and timely reporting, supporting a WFP wide view of logistics activities that enables informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
