The CTBTO awards a limited number of internships to university students and recent graduates from diverse academic background. Its purpose is to provide a learning and development experience in a field related to the Commissionโ€™s activities specialized in various professional fields. Interns usually work on specific practical assignments. Opportunities for internships are available subject to the current needs of the individual divisions within the CTBTO.

Organizational Background

The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 337 stations worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance.

Organizational Setting

The Public Information (PI) Section is responsible for communicating about the mandate and work of the organization to diverse stakeholders, including internal audiences. It does this in a variety of ways, including through its corporate website, social media channels, traditional media outreach, publications, exhibitions, events, and cultural diplomacy.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Communication Advisor and Chief, Public Information Section, and/or in coordination with the responsible Officer, to:

Research and manage the daily press clippings, and provide summaries for senior management; Draft input for the social media sites Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, monitor comments and conduct media research and analysis; Research and draft articles for the public website www.ctbto.org; Assist with research on public diplomacy strategies to promote the Treatyโ€™s entry into force and the completion of its verification regime; Assist with building media profiles for public information stakeholders and research media outlets in different countries and regions; Update contact database and the Flickr photograph database; Assist in the production of audiovisual content, including sourcing photos, videos, and music, and organizing audiovisual files; Create social media content such as short videos, animations, photo collages, graphics, and other assets; Support youth engagement and empowerment by supporting efforts to highlight the CTBTO Youth Group; Undertake other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications

Candidates for an internship must be at least 18 years of age and no more than 35 years of age; At the time of application, the applicant must have completed at least two years of full-time study that will lead to the award of a degree in international relations, political science, history, public information, journalism, marketing, film production or other relevant fields; Applications may be accepted up to two years after completion of a bachelorโ€™s, masterโ€™s or doctoral degree.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Ability to conduct research and find information from diverse sources required; Knowledge of design programs such as Canva, Adobe or other software desirable; Knowledge of social media content production and best practices desirable; Audiovisual production skills (recording, editing) desirable; Ability to work in fast-paced dynamic environment required.

Languages

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential; Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.
