Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.

The objective of this internship is to help K&I Branch to support the start of the new project โ€œ Community of Practice: Urban Innovationโ€ between UN-Habitat and ISOCARP. The intern will also assist in innovation and knowledge related work at the branch, linking normative work with the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG11, for instance through the Participatory Habitat Initiative.

The Intern will be required to operate off-site, and no travel request will be approved, either as part of on boarding, or during the tenure of internship

The Urban Innovation for SDGs and the New Urban Agenda internship is for 6 months.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the Supervision of K&IB focal point the intern will:

- Support on normative products.
- Undertake literature review.
- Undertake Concept Note and Report Preparation.
- Undertake Global Research on related topics.
- Undertake Excel-based analysis and delivery of data visualizations
- Support the project lead on ad-hoc issues around the office including among other things the writing of concept notes, preparation of talking points and the preparation of PowerPoint Presentations.
- Assist in project documentation

Education

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree,Masters, PhD. or equivalent
Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred Area of Study: Public administration,Development,Economics,ICT or related field. Understanding Urban Planning in addition to Finance is desirable.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Programme. Are you a student in a Bachelorโ€™s (final year), Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have you completed a Bachelor's degree, Masters. PhD. or equivalent?

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable
