Org. Setting and Reporting

The position is located in the Communications and Results Reporting Section of the United Nations Development Coordination Office (DCO) Headquarters in New York and is for a period of six (6) months .

In its resolution A/RES/72/279, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the transformation of DCO as stand-alone coordination office within the United Nations Secretariat. The new DCO assumes managerial and oversight functions of the resident coordinator system under the collective ownership of the members of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG).

The Intern would work remotely 0under the supervision of a staff member in the Communications and Results Reporting section.

The internship is UNPAID and part-time (20 hours/week) .

Responsibilities

The Intern may be responsible for the following duties:
โ€ข Identifying, researching, drafting and editing content (text, photos, documents and multimedia) for online publications (website and social media);
โ€ข Maintaining content on websites, official social media accounts and other official digital communication outlets presences according to established policies;
โ€ข Creating and maintaining a repository of stories and other website content Contributing to tagging of website contentPerforming auditing exercises on the digital platformsAssisting in optimising websites for correctness, accessibility and search engine performance;
โ€ข Events coverage and notetakingEntering and reviewing information utilised on sharepoint and other data-sharing and knowledge management platforms utilised across the Resident Coordinator System;
โ€ข Creating and editing infographics or social videos for posting on official digital communication outlets;
โ€ข Contribute to strategies for more effective audience engagement across digital channels;
โ€ข Contributing ideas to projects for enhancing the reach of official digital communication outlets, identifying opportunities to reach a wider audience;
โ€ข Contributing to monitoring the usage of website and social media accounts using analytics and other statistical tools and techniques;
โ€ข Media monitoring, fact-checking and related research work for stories from the Resident Coordinator System;
โ€ข Maintaining and updating media and subscription mailing lists for the Section and assisting in distributing various information products;
โ€ข Contribute to updating social media inventories of UN country team and Resident Coordinatorsโ€™ accounts.
โ€ข Providing design support across a range of print and digital products
โ€ข Assisting in developing branding material, including posters, logos and other communications products, such as publications, booklets, etc.
โ€ข Creating illustrations and infographics for print and digital platforms
โ€ข Supporting the development of various SharePoint pages
โ€ข Perform other related duties, as required.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Development Coordination Office, applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme in journalism, communication, media studies, digital communications, filmmaking, international relations or related field (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in journalism, communication, media studies, digital communications, filmmaking, international relations or related field (minimum bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree in journalism, communication, media studies, digital communications, filmmaking, international relations or related field (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
2. Applicants must have strong writing skills in English.
3. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), Adobe (InDesign, Illustrator), design and email marketing platforms such as Bee pro, Canvas, Mailchimp
4. Be computer literate in standard software applications and content management systems (Drupal 9). Experience using social media platforms and data analysis
5. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
6. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship, fluency in English is required.
