Org. Setting and Reporting

The position is located in the Department of Global Communications, Strategic Communications Division, Development Section, and is for a minimum period of two months with an opportunity for extension up to six months pending on availability and the needs of the department. The Development Section has a mandate to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that guide the UNโ€™s work to boost economic prosperity and social well-being while protecting the environment. The intern will report to the Chief of the Development Section.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the Section.

Responsibilities

This opportunity is designed for an intern to work with experienced information professionals.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

1. Tracking, researching and analyzing information on assigned topics, gathering information from diverse sources and helping assess news value and other potential impact;
2. Drafting and compiling a specific type (print, broadcast, social media, etc.) of information products for target audiences;
3. Conducting photo and graphic research; designing and preparing multimedia assets by using tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite, and captioning videos and clips.
4. Assisting with the implementation of DGCโ€™s communications campaigns; identifying and proposing information opportunities, activities and approaches while taking into account the topic and target audience;
5. Assisting with organization of press conferences for communications campaigns on priority development issues;
5. Maintaining and updating media and subscription mailing lists;
6. Media monitoring.

Education

Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in, or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or

(b) be enrolled in, or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)

Applicants must also:
-Be computer literate in standard software applications
-Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter;
-Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

United Nations Considerations

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
