Org. Setting and Reporting

The Advocacy Section, Public Affairs and Policy Support Branch, Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) internship is for a period of three months, with possibility of extension up to six months, starting on 30 November 2020.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Given the current situation due to COVID-19, interns, who will be selected, will have to start working remotely from their country of nationality/residence until the international travel restrictions are lifted and access to the Vienna International Centre can be granted.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individualโ€™s background; the internโ€™s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

โ€ขTranslate UNODC web pages, new web stories, social media content, and campaign materials into French and upload on relevant platforms

โ€ขCompile and disseminate daily press clippings on UNODC and its mandate areas

โ€ขAssist in the management of UNODC French social media platform

โ€ขPrepare social Media Messages

โ€ขConduct research relevant to the work of UNODC

โ€ขPerform other duties within the communications team as assigned.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

โ€ข Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above)

โ€ข Be computer literate in standard software applications

โ€ข Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

โ€ข Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. A perfect command of French, which must be the candidate's main language, together with fluency in spoken and written English are required for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, in particular Spanish, is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

United Nations Considerations

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
