Work LocationNew York Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe intern is expected to work five days per week, full time from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. within the United Nations Youth Office, located at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, carrying out his/her tasks under the supervision of a staff member - the supervisor. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the department to which he/she is assigned and the period during which he/she will undertake the internship. The intern is expected to perform various activities, and will work in areas of coordination and administration, including: โ€ข As part of a team, the fellow will support the preparation, coordination, implementation, monitoring of key initiatives in support of the implementation of the mandate of the United Nations Youth Office, focusing on participation, partnerships, advocacy, communications, and coordination. โ€ข Support the organization of special events, conferences, workshops, and High-Level events (particularly the ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024 and the Summit of the Future), including by participating in relevant meetings with partners, assisting in preparing concept and logistics notes, session scenarios and other materials. โ€ข Support the preparation substantive materials across a range of issues through briefs, talking points, speeches, and provide succinct analysis of key developments. โ€ข Provide support to the project management of the Office including administrative tasks, associated with the Officeโ€™s key initiatives. โ€ข Carry out research on selected aspects of programmes, operations and other activities, and contribute to data collection, analysis, and dissemination and supports knowledge sharing and management. โ€ข Support partnership development and engagement around the key initiatives. โ€ข Perform other duties as required. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience; however, a field of study that is related to the type of internship is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word and MS PowerPoint, is required. Experience on youth engagement or youth related processes is an asset. Experience in coordination and administration related processes is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable. Knowledge of Chinese will be considered a plus. Additional InformationMore generally, interns shall: 1. Observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions, procedures and directives of the Organization notwithstanding their status as described in section 4 of the UN Internship Programme Administrative Instructions ST/AI/2000/9 & ST/AI/2005/11; 2. Provide the receiving departments/offices with a copy of all materials prepared by them during the internship. The UN shall be entitled to all property rights, including but not limited to patents, copyrights and trademarks, with regard to material which bears a direct relation to, 3. or is made in consequence of, the services provided under the internship. At the request of the UN, the interns shall assist in securing such property rights and transferring them to the UN in compliance with the requirements of the applicable law; 4. Respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and of the receiving department/office and shall not seek or accept instructions regarding the services performed under the internship agreement from any Government or from any authority external to the UN; 5. Unless otherwise authorized by the appropriate official in the receiving department/office, they may not communicate at any time to the media or to any institution, person, Government or any other external source any information which has become known to them by reason of their association with the UN or the receiving department/office, that they know or ought to have known has not been made public. They may not use any such information without the written authorization of the appropriate official, and such information may never be used for personal gain. These obligations also apply after the end of the internship with the UN; and 6. Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or on the receiving department/office and will not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the UN.
