Position Overview
โโGirl Up is a girl-centered leadership development initiative, focusing on equity for girls and women in spaces where they are unheard or underrepresented. We believe when girls and women are in positions of influence, they work to create a more just and equitable world for everyone.
Girl Up operates a global network of regional affiliates and serves 200,000 girls in 152 countries. We deliver evidence-based leadership development training through our girl-led Clubs, programs, and events. As members of a global movement, girls are a force for social good โ connected to a community of their peers who are advocating for policy change and advancing gender justice.

Girl Up was founded by the United Nations Foundation in 2010. The United Nations Foundation is an independent charitable organization created to be a strategic partner for the United Nations to address humanityโs greatest challenges, build initiatives across sectors to solve problems at scale, and drive global progress.
Girl Up is seeking an intern to learn about and support its event programs. The Intern, Events, Girl Up will report to the Senior Manager, Events, Girl Up and work closely with many members of the Girl Up team. โ
Essential Functions
โโAssist in generating ideas and content for events such as discussion topics, engagement tools, and speaker research;
โSupport key event moments such as the Girl Up Regional Leadership Summits;
โAssist with organizing and creating event planning documents;
โAssist with logistics and volunteer outreach for events and summits;
โParticipate in internal and external meetings and support with notetaking and follow up as needed;
โSupport with additional special projects as needed.
โโ Selection Criteria
โโCandidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university.
โInterest and/or experience in event planning, professional or campus organizing, grassroots outreach, political campaigns, and/or canvassing is highly preferred.
โInterest in women and girlsโ rights, global health issues, international development, and/or communications is preferred.
โBroad understanding of virtual event planning
โExcellent oral and written communications skills.
โExcellent customer service skills.
โExperience in Microsoft Office suite.
โExperience in event management tools like Cvent, Eventbrite or others preferred.
โAbility to take initiative as a self-starter.
โStrong creativity and organizational skills.
โAbility to work well with a small, fast-paced team and manage multiple tasks.
โStrong consideration given to candidates with experience with virtual event platforms like Zoom Events.
โAbility to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
โMust have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.
โMust be available to work a maximum of 29 hours per week.
โMust be authorized to work in the United States.โ
