Org. Setting and Reporting
The internship is located in the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme (CPCJ), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA), Nairobi, Kenya. The position is for a period of 3 months starting in November/December 2020.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

The interns shall undertake the following duties:
-Support the substantive work of the ROEA Youth Programme
-Conduct research on youth issues across the region
-Participate in the planning of the Programme’s activities, such as meetings, workshops, conferences and trainings, as well as draft reports and minutes.
-Contribute to the preparation of background documents, presentations, summaries, talking points and speeches.
-Support writing, reviewing and updating social media content to raise visibility of the youth Programme’s work.
-Support procurement activities (eg drafting of terms of reference).
-Perform other tasks as necessary.
-Professionalism: Knowledge, experience and/or training in criminal justice, criminal law, human rights and/or public international law. -Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others; places team agenda before personal agenda; supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decision may not entirely reflect own position; shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.
Applicants for an internship must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION).
A degree in the field of international relations, political science, law or a related area is required.
Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
Applicants must have a keen demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
