Work LocationOffice-based Expected duration3-6 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is an independent intergovernmental body which assesses the state of biodiversity and of the ecosystem services it provides to people. Established in 2012 in Panama, IPBES has a current membership of 147 Governments and seeks to respond to the needs of Governments and other stakeholders to strengthen the science-policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services. Three thousand scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of IPBES on a voluntary basis. They are nominated by their Government or an organization, and selected by the IPBES Multidisciplinary Expert Panel. Peer review forms a key component of the work of IPBES to ensure that a range of views is reflected in its work, and that the work is complete to the highest scientific standards. IPBES has a collaborative partnership agreement with four United Nations entities: UNEP, UNESCO, FAO and UNDP. The secretariat of IPBES is hosted by the German Government, located on the UN campus, in Bonn, Germany, and administered by UN Environment. Internship-specific background: The Development Unit at IPBES is responsible for developing partnerships with governments, public organizations and the private sector and to raise voluntary contributions from all sources to IPBES trust fund to enable IPBES to implement its work programme. This internship is for a period of minimum three to maximum six months. The exact period will be determined based on the availability of the intern and the needs of the secretariat. The selected intern will work onsite at the IPBES secretariat in Bonn, Germany. Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours). Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be under the direct supervision of the Head of Development. The Head of Development will always be available to guide the candidate and answer any question; however, ability to work in fast-paces environments (with minimal supervision) is key to this position. Specific activities and responsibilities would include: โ€ข Assisting in mapping a list of prospective partners/donors sorted by countries and by categories of partners/donors โ€ข Researching and data-mining information relating to those potential prospective partners/donors โ€ข Monitoring closely calls for projects of philanthropic and companiesโ€™ foundations โ€ข Monitoring biodiversity events worldwide that IPBES could target Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: โ€ข Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, higher); or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
