โโUnited to Beat Malaria (Beat Malaria), formerly known as Nothing But Nets, is the worldโs largest grassroots campaign fighting to end malaria, a preventable disease which claims the life of a child every two minutes. Beat Malaria brings together UN partners, advocates, celebrity champions, donors, and organizations to raise awareness, funds, and voices around the fight to end this historic injustice. Working together, we have protected more than 40 million people from malaria through the distribution of more than 13 million bed nets, along with testing, treatment, and other vital interventions. Working together, we can be the generation to end malaria for good!
The United to Beat Malaria Communications Intern will report to the Associate of Communications and Digital Media. They will have the opportunity to work across the Beat Malaria portfolio including partnerships, fundraising, advocacy, and global health.
The Communications Intern will work with the Beat Malaria team to support the campaignโs fundraising, advocacy, and global health initiatives, including but not limited to social media management, website management, research on best practice strategy, and supporting the development of materials, toolkits, reports, presentations, graphics, and blogs. Applicants should have an understanding of and/or interest in social impact communications.
This is a paid opportunity from May 28, 2024, through September 2, 2024, and offers an hourly compensation rate of $17.50 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from (within 8 months of graduation) an associate degree or bachelorโs degree program; and $20 per hour for individuals currently enrolled in a graduate program.
This position is remote. Access to a computer with a reliable internet connection is required.
An ideal Communications Intern would exhibit strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and interest in working on a variety of aspects as related to the campaignโs initiatives. This role will include the following responsibilities:โ
Essential Functions
โโSupport the campaignโs communications efforts to meet partnership, advocacy, and fundraising goals.
โAssist the Communications team in maintaining the campaignโs editorial calendar and brainstorming content for the campaignโs blog and social channels.
โHelp create and edit campaign digital content, including videos, blog posts, social media content, and other campaign materials.
โWork with the communications team to develop a series of audience profiles that help our campaign better understand our supporters across our advocacy, fundraising, and global health team sub-teams.
โHelp design social media toolkits and graphics.
โAssist with the communications aspects of campaign events โ in particular, our annual Leadership Summit (March 10-12) in Washington DC โ by creating promotional content on social media, developing branded materials, and supporting day-of/week-of communications efforts to ensure a successful event.
โProvide editorial guidance/oversight for College Ambassadors, monitoring their content and providing content toolkits/messaging around key moments.
โManage our TikTok account: create fun, educational, and trend-following content; follow engagement with our account; engage with other relevant TikTok accounts.
โMonitor for and share news about malaria and United to Beat Malaria and help maintain the campaignโs media coverage archive.
โWork with the communications team to research and identify key media contacts for appropriate campaign stories and events.
โHelp the Communications team pull data and analyze the campaignโs digital performance.
โSupport the campaign team to update materials and collateral with new messaging.
โSupport the campaign team to draft fact sheets, press releases, media advisories, refugee impact stories, and other communications materials.
โSupport the Communications team in the promotion, measurement, and content of the new website.
โSupport campaign communications surrounding key celebrity ambassador trips and appearances.
โProvide administrative support as needed.
โOther duties as assigned.โ
Selection Criteria
โโCandidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university.
โBackground knowledge in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or Global Health preferred.
โApplicants should have an understanding of and experience with communications, journalism and/or public relations.
โApplicants should have an understanding of and experience with social networking and blogging and have their own presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
โExperience with data analytics platforms like Sprout Social and/or Google Analytics preferred.
โExcellent oral and written communications skills.
โExperience in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
โExperience with Adobe platforms including Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign preferred by not required.
โAbility to take initiative and be a self-starter.
โStrong organizational skills.
โAbility to manage multiple tasks.
โAbility to work under pressure and handle stress.
โAbility to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
โMust have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.
โMust be available to work a maximum of 29 hours per week.
