Position Overview

The United Nations Foundation is committed to working with the UN, governments, and other critical stakeholders to galvanize the collective action required to meet the worldโ€™s climate and environmental challenges. Toward that goal, the Climate and Environment Intern will provide support to the Climate and Environment team on greenhouse gas accounting, research, communications, and event management until April 2023.

This is a paid opportunity and offers a rate of $17/hour for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from (within 8 months of graduation) an associate degree or bachelorโ€™s degree program; and $20/hour for individuals currently enrolled in a graduate program. This position is remote.

Essential Functions

Contribute to the UN Foundationโ€™s biennial greenhouse gas emissions accounting effort, including emissions data collection, calculations, and offsets purchase.Work with other team members to research, monitor, and synthesize key findings and developments in the international climate and environmental policy and diplomacy spheres.Support UNFโ€™s work in areas such as food and climate, ocean action, and climate resilience, by conducting research and preparing materials on current and emerging issues. Help produce a range of written projects for internal and external audiences.Support the team through coordination of materials for leadership and other teams.Assist with organizing and executing in-person and virtual meetings and events.Keep abreast of climate and environmental news.Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

Candidate must be enrolled in a degree-granting program during the internship or must be a recent graduate (within 8 months of graduation) of a college or university.Experience with greenhouse gas accounting preferable.Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple priorities.Strong professional interpersonal skills.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Interest, knowledge of, or experience in climate and environmental policy.Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.Must have a personal laptop computer and access to the Internet.Must be available to work a maximum of 20 hours per week.Must be authorized to work in the United States.
