Terms of ReferenceUNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the Shelter and infrastructure team at UNHCR Peru.
Established in December 1950, UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for asylum seekers, refugees, returnees, internally displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution. UNHCR currently operates in over 130 countries, using its long expertise to protect and care for millions.
Organizational context:
At UNHCR, a core part of our protection mission is to guarantee access to adequate infrastructure in humanitarian emergencies. The infrastructure team is seeking an intern to join and support the implementation of constructions/rehabilitations of spaces used by refugees and Peruvian population: schools, health facilities and community centers.
The position:
The intern will be able to learn and participate in the development of the projects from the identification of spatial needs to the monitoring of work execution. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and meticulous.

Duties and responsibilities:
The intern will carry out the following activities:
• Supporting the development of preliminary drafts for infrastructure projects, such as digital blueprints.
• Assisting in the development of technical specifications, planimetry, isometric views, and 3D renderings of preliminary drafts.
• Assisting in the review and analysis of executive files in accordance with Peru's National Building Regulations and UNHCR’s regulations.
• Assisting in the preparation of materials and presentations for internal meetings and meetings with design/construction suppliers.
• Assisting in obtaining information about pricing from design/construction suppliers.
• Performing other activities as requested by the supervisor.
Minimum qualifications required:
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
Desirable qualifications and skills:
• Recently graduated or student in the final semesters of Architecture, civil engineering or related areas of work.
• Language levels: English: Intermediate. Spanish: mother tongue or proficient.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint and Word). Skills and experience using showcase apps such as CANVA, PREZI or Google Slides is an asset.
• Proficiency in design tools: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop and Illustrator.
• Strong organizational skills.
• High sense of responsibility and capability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with other units within UNHCR and other agencies.
• High degree of confidentiality, loyalty to the organization, values-based training, and adherence to ethical principles enabling impartiality and appropriate interaction with international/national officials while maintaining respect for diverse cultures and ideologies.
Conditions:
It is a full time role with working hours starting from 8.30 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Lima.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
At the end of the internship period, the intern must submit a report approved by his/her supervisor and will receive an internship certificate.
