Setting and ReportingThis position is located within the Jurisdictional Support Unit of the United Nations Investigative Team for Accountability of Da'esh / ISIL (UNITAD) and will be based in Baghdad, Iraq. The incumbent will report to the Legal Officer of the Office of the Special Adviser, Team Leader of the Jurisdictional Support Unit. . UNITAD was established by the Secretary-General pursuant to Security Council resolution 2379 (2017), according to which it is mandated to support domestic efforts to hold ISIL (Da'esh) accountable by collecting, preserving and storing evidence in Iraq of acts that may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by the terrorist group ISIL (Da'esh) in Iraq. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Information Analyst, Political Affairs will be responsible for the following duties: • Maintain an understanding of developments/events relevant for the implementation of the Mission mandate through monitoring and collection of data/information from multiple sources, including the UN system and UN Country Team (UNCT), Iraqi military/judicial/civilian authorities, national and international NGOs, media and other key stakeholders; • Search, manage, and transfer information and evidence by using information and evidence management processes and systems, including Relativity and iBase, to provide Member States with evidence and information in support of investigations and prosecutions of individuals for international crimes, such as war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide; • Organize, analyse and synthesise information and evidence for the identification of trends, patterns and structures pertaining to the commission of crimes; • Produce accurate and timely analytical products and briefings for jurisdictions of Member States; • Maintain a system for classifying and storing confidential information and evidence by using specialized e-discovery and data management tools, in consultation with information management/technology expertise; • Perform other duties as required. Work ExperienceA minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the intelligence or information analysis, political science, international relations, international law, journalism, development, security (military or police) or related field is required. Experience in research, information analysis and drafting of analytical products for the purpose of investigations and prosecutions of international crimes is required. Experience in data-management and e-discovery tools for information and evidence analysis is required. Experience in working for a court or tribunal, war crimes unit or other prosecutorial authority of a Member State in furtherance of investigations and/or prosecutions of international crimes is required. Experience in a UN peacekeeping or other United Nations field operation is desirable. Experience working in the Mission's geographical region of operations is desirable. Experience in analysis in relation to ISIL (Da'esh) is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic is desirable.
