About this position

The Investment Operations Department (INO) is in charge of originating, structuring and monitoring IDB Invest’s transactions. The Department is comprised of three divisions responsible for originating and structuring transactions in each of IDB Invest’s priority industries: (i) Infrastructure and Energy, (ii) Corporates and (iii) Financial Intermediaries, and two transversal divisions responsible for (i) Financial Products and Services and (ii) Portfolio Management.

The Financial Institutions Division supports a broad range of financial institutions (“FIs”) such as banks, mutual banks, credit cooperatives, financial and insurance companies, funds and microfinance institutions, among others, through debt and equity financing, guarantees and knowledge to promote economic development, job creation and the adoption of sustainable environmental, social and corporate governance principles.

We are looking for an Investment Officer to manage the origination, structuring and execution of FIs investments.

What you’ll do:

Drive the identification, selection, origination and execution of FIs transactions in IDB Invest’s member countries, consistent with the IDB Invest’s operating policies. Evaluate both lending and non-lending projects, including, but not limited to, the initial screening of project applications, evaluation of feasibility studies, and preparation of concept notes, assessing project risks and advising on appropriate risk mitigation actions. Conduct appraisal meetings to gather the necessary technical, legal, economic and financial information to assess the merits of potential investment opportunities as required. Coordinate with product experts in areas such as trade finance and capital markets, as well as with the environmental, social and governance safeguards, finance, development effectiveness, legal, and risk functions as it relates to project structuring and closing of deals. Lead industry and market research of financial institutions to guide the business origination and execution efforts aligned with the investment strategy of IDB Invest and its mandate for the private sector. Play a meaningful role in promoting IDB Invest by developing key relationships in the private sector development communities, liaising with industry authorities, potential clients, partners and stakeholders as well as generating new business opportunities.

What you'll need

Education: You hold a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or relevant field. Experience: You have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience as an investment officer or equivalent position at a financial institution or consultancy firm. Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements

Citizenship: You are either a citizen of one of the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guyana or El Salvador or with residency or legal permit to work in each of the countries. Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab. COVID-19 considerations: the health and safety of our employees are our number one priority. As a condition of employment, IDB/IDB Invest requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Type of contract and duration

National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
