About this position:

The Finance and Administration Department (FNA) covers the following divisions: Controllership; Analytics and Information Technology; Operations; and Treasury. The Controllership Division is responsible for accounting, financial reporting and budget operations, as well as overseeing corporate resource administration to support IDB Investโ€™s business needs. The Accounting teams within the Controllership Division are responsible for all accounting and financial reporting functions, including establishing accounting policies and monitoring compliance with US generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP); assessing the accounting implications of IDBI products, transactions, and business events; monitoring, controlling and overseeing preparation of accounting records; and preparing IDBI financial statements.


The Controllership Division is looking to hire an accounting analyst consultant within the Accounting Policy team. This position requires a strong technical US GAAP knowledge, the ability to multi-task and manage time effectively, strong oral and written communication skills, and sound judgment. The analyst will interact regularly with other FNA teams, investment teams, and external auditors.   • Assist in evaluating accounting standards proposed or issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), financial reporting requirements issued by other standard setters, auditing standards issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to determine the potential impact on IDB Invest or funds under IDB Investโ€™s administration.
  • Assist in maintaining accounting policy documentation.
  • Collaborate with FNA teams to understand and document the operational implications of new products or product features.
  • Assess the accounting and financial reporting implications of investment transactions in IDB Investโ€™s pipeline and other activities or business events, document findings for review, and provide timely feedback to investment teams.
  • Review financial statement disclosures for compliance with accounting standards and/or market practice in collaboration with the financial reporting team.
  • Provide input on design of accounting and operational processes and procedures and related documentation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of processes and procedures that impact accounting and financial reporting.
  • Prepare materials and deliver training sessions to educate internal teams on the accounting implications of certain products or product features and other business events.

    What youโ€™ll need:

    • Education: MBA, Masterโ€™s degree in accounting or equivalent; Professional accounting certification: CPA/CA or equivalent required.
    • Experience: At least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience researching and applying US GAAP or other accounting standards with experience in accounting for financial instruments in the context of a financial institution preferred. Relevant professional experience providing an understanding of financial instruments, financial institution operations, and internal controls. Big 4 or regional accounting firm experience preferred. Systems development or valuation experience valued.
    • Languages: Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish required. French or Portuguese language skills also valued.
