UNHCR UAE primarily represents UNHCR to the government of the UAE, the media and other stakeholders. UNHCR internships are highly prized and provide a unique opportunity to work within the United Nations system and also on one of the most important global issues of today.
The Private Partnerships and Philanthropy unit (PSP) division in MENA is primarily focused on raising funds and awareness from the private sector across the MENA region. This is done both online and offline and with a wide range of partners to include high net worth individuals, corporations and foundations. PSP focuses on advocating for refugees and other people of concern using multiple channels of engagement, such as digital and direct relationship management.
The Position
We are seeking a dynamic and proactive team player with a strong communication and customer orientation skills.
The candidate will be closely collaborating with the Private Sector Partnerships team, engaging with UNHCR's extensive networks. You'll coordinate with UNHCR office staff on daily operations. Candidates with ICT experience are preferred, along with valued soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and customer service orientation.
Duties and responsibilities
โข Provide basic technical support for desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.
โข Assist with troubleshooting hardware and software issues for end-users.
โข Collaborate with the IT team to resolve technical problems promptly.
โข Provide support on telephony issues.
โข Support in maintaining the inventory of IT assets (hardware, software licenses, peripherals).
โข Assist tracking IT asset lifecycles, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, and retirement.
โข Contribute to IT projects, including research, testing, and implementation with IT Lead.
โข Assist in testing locally developed applications and datasets.
โข Promote cybersecurity best practices among staff.
Skill & Qualification required
โข Proficiency with Office 365 Applications, windows and macOS.
โข Knowledge of basic computer networks and IP Telephony concepts
โข Understanding of Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
โข Awareness of modern Audio & Video conferencing systems is a plus.
โข Familiarity with the MS Power Automate and Power Apps Platform is a plus.
โข Knowledge of Generative AI is a plus.
Minimum qualifications required and professional experience required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
โข Applicants with a Bachelorโs degree in Computer Science, B.Tech, or Information Systems are encouraged to apply. Fresh graduates or those with a minimum of 6 months of experience in the same field are desirable.
Location:
The successful candidate will be based with the team in Dubai, UAE.
Arrangements for travel, including travel arrangements to and from the location where the internship will be carried out, are the responsibilities of interns.
Interns engaged from a location outside the country of the duty station are entitled to a refund for return travel costs to/from the duty station by the most economical route. Reimbursement shall be limited to the authorized return travel between the Internโs country of residence and the Internโs duty station, or actual route of travel, whichever is lower
Eligibility
โข Be a recent graduate (graduated within 2 years from the time of application) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO;
โข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
โข Not have immediate relatives (father, mother, brother, or sister) working for UNHCR as a staff member on any contract type or as an affiliate at the time of application.
Conditions
The internship is for three months with the start date being on 1 July 2024. It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (with 45 mins lunch break) Monday through Thursday & 8:00 am to 12:00 pm (no lunch break) on Friday.
The selected candidate will have to arrange for their own residency visa in Dubai. Candidates who are nationals are highly encouraged to apply. Kindly mention your residency status in the application.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
