The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and malnutrition. The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.ย 

The grade of the position is SC-7.


Reporting Lines

The incumbent works under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative for Zimbabwe and the direct supervision of the International Administrative Officer and in close collaboration with the regional Human Resources Unit,. ย 


Technical Focus

The Human Resources (HR) Specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing administrative tasks related to the hiring of national and international affiliate workforce, in accordance with FAO rules and regulations. The incumbent will provide support in human resources matters in the subregion and country office including human resources strategic planning, recruitment, human resource development, performance management and talent management, in consultation with HR Unit in the Regional Office for Africa (RAF) .ย 


Tasks and responsibilities

โ€ข ย  ย Support the overall hiring plan for hiring of national and international affiliate workforce.
โ€ข ย  ย Develop and/or review Terms of Reference of affiliate workforce and ensure compliance with current standards and regulations.
โ€ข ย  ย Coordinate and manage the publication of calls to attract candidates for vacancies related to national and international affiliate workforce, ensuring proper dissemination to attract qualified talent.
โ€ข ย  ย Organize and facilitate the selection process, including coordinating interviews with the selection panel and preparing reports on evaluated candidates.
โ€ข ย  ย Manage the complete cycle of contracts for national and international affiliate workforce in the Global Resource Management System (GRMS), ensuring the collection and verification of required documentation.
โ€ข ย  ย Supervise the validity of contracts for national and international affiliate workforce in and take appropriate measures in coordination with supervisors for renewal or termination as necessary.
โ€ข ย  ย Provide administrative support, including recording worked hours for the payment of fees to national and international consultants and other related tasks.
โ€ข ย  ย Collaborate in implementing actions to promote a respectful and harmonious work environment, aligned with the organization's values and commitments.
โ€ข ย  ย Facilitate knowledge exchange and best practices within the office, promoting collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
โ€ข ย  ย Assist in the performance evaluation process of national and international consultants, providing logistical and administrative support for the preparation and recording of their performance evaluation reports (QAR).
โ€ข ย  ย Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
โ€ข ย  ย Perform other tasks as required.

Minimum Requirements ย  ย 

โ€ข ย  ย Advanced University Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Management, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, Public Administration, Business Administration, or another closely related fieldย 
โ€ข ย  ย Five years of relevant experience in human resources management and administration, including demonstrated experience in management and in staff servicingย 
โ€ข ย  ย Working knowledge (Level C) of Englishย 
โ€ข ย  ย National of Zimbabwe
