Financial Reporting Accountant
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Financial Reporting Accountant to join our Finance team.
This role is based in Basel, Switzerland however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.
Purpose of the job:
Our mission is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation, and to act as a bank for central banks.
You will contribute to this mission by:
Being part of the wider team responsible for the production of financial statements and financial reports of the operations of the BIS, the BIS Pension Fund, Investment Pools and hosted organisations, in accordance with the internal accounting policies and procedures. Contributing to various projects, including the development of new financial reports for cost management and banking operations, participating in teams that set up new products, and automating existing processes..By joining the Finance team, you will:
Principal Accountabilities:
Produce the financial statements of the operations of the BIS, its Pension Fund, its Investment Pools and its hosted organisations. Operate and develop enchancements for accounting processes for daily, month-end, quarter-end and year-end activities, reconciliations and other control procedures. Provide assistance, responding and resolving matters as part of the annual audits for the BIS, its Pension Fund, its Investment Pools and hosted organisations. Produce, review, analyse and develop high-quality key management, financial and budget reports, including annual financial statement disclosures. Participate in projects to maintain and improve finance systems, business processes, internal controls and reports within the Finance section as well as in bank-wide initiatives. Build and maintain relationships with both internal and external partners and provides support for various departments across the Bank. Maintain, develop and review finance related policies such as accounting and budgeting manuals. This includes identification of new policies and procedures as well as reviewing old policies for accuracy. Perform additional duties as required.Qualifications, skills, and experience:
A primary accounting qualification (ACA, CPA, CA, Wirtschaftsprรผfer), with post qualification experience. University degree or equivalent experience in accounting, business administration or a quantitative field. Strong reporting and accounting skills, preferably with experience in the financial industry. Knowledge of IFRS, financial instruments and banking operations. High attention to detail, problem solving, analytical skills and time management skills to organise and prioritise work with minimum supervision. Strong IT skills: Excellent Microsoft Excel skills is essential. Knowledge of financial management information systems, banking systems and reporting-writing tools (e.g. PeopleSoft, Findur, Business Objects, Certent) are desirable. Excellent collaboration and communication skills with ability to handle multiple projects / duties. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Other major world languages would be desirable.Who we are:
