Organizational Background
The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria is the international organization setting up the global verification system foreseen under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which is the treaty banning any nuclear-weapon-test explosion or any other nuclear explosion. The Treaty provides for a global verification regime, including a network of 337 stations worldwide, a communications system, an international data centre and on-site inspections to monitor compliance.
Organizational Setting
This position is located in the Editorial and Publishing Unit (EDP), Policy Making Organ Secretariat Support Section (PMOS), Legal and External Relations Division (LEG).
Reporting Lines
Under the supervision of the Head, Editorial and Publishing Unit, to:
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide timely assistance to editors; copy-edit and proofread official documents submitted to and publications produced by the Section in compliance with established editorial practice; Perform quality controls on the documentation processed by the Section, including verification of the accuracy of factual information and cross-references in a deadline-driven environment; Ensure typographical accuracy and conformity with the CTBTO Editorial Manual; liaise with editors to ensure all editorial changes are reflected in the final version of documents and publications; Review the content of electronic materials produced for the Organizationโs publications, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and relevance; Assist the Head, Editorial and Publishing Unit in the comprehensive review and continuous improvement of the CTBTO Editorial Manual and related guides; Assist the Documents Control Assistant in issuing official documentation through the electronic documents management system and ensure the proper archiving of finalized documents, maintaining the integrity of organizational records; Perform other duties as assigned.Education
Completed secondary education or equivalent. Additional training or certification in editing, publishing, communications, or a related field is highly desirable.
Work Experience and Qualifications
At least five (5) years of relevant work experience in copy-editing, proofreading, publishing and documentation processing, part of which should have been in an international environment. Good knowledge of scientific and technical terminology would be an asset; Solid knowledge of editorial standards, grammar, proofreading, formatting and publication processes and strong attention to detail is essential; Experience in desktop publishing and advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign/InCopy. Knowledge of electronic document management systems is required.Languages
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

CTBTO offers an attractive compensation and benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission.
