About this position
The Executive Vice President (EVP), as the Chief Operating Officer of the institution and under the guidance of the Board of Executive Directors and the President of the Bank, is responsible for the operation of the Bank and provides day-to-day management oversight of and direction to the Vice Presidents and all other senior staff. The EVP also oversees the quality control and risk management of all Bank operations and serves as chair of all Management committees responsible for the Bankโs operational activities.
You will be part of a dedicated and multidisciplinary team, with a leadership role in operational and corporate matters and with specific responsibilities exercised while working on projects, tasks and activities (operational and corporate) geared to advise the EVP, senior management and the Bank teams.
This position provides a dual function: 1) lead the assessment of policy based operations, Special development loans SDLs and economic aspects of all other IDB operations; and 2) advise in the processes and activities related strategic communication in macro and micro economic matters with high level internal and external stakeholders.
What youโll do:
The Economics and Communications Lead Specialist will have a key role in addressing important matters for the Inter-American Development Bank. As part of our diverse and dedicated team, you will have the chance to make a substantial impact on the bank's operational and corporate concerns. Your knowledge in development economics and communication will be utilized to provide guidance to senior management and influential internal and external individuals.
Although youwill work in all sectors of the economy, it is expected that your strong background in economics and strategic communications give you theability to advise operational teams and Executive Vice President in aspects such as applied microeconomics in diverse sectors, the relevant public policy best practices, and the interlinkages between the sectorial agendas and macroeconomic policies (i.e. structural reform, social impact under economic instability and sustainable funding of social programs).
In this context and working independently and with minimal oversight from the Executive Vice President, you will:
- Take charge of developing and implementing communication plans rooted in comprehensive economic analysis.
- Improve methods and channels of communication for economic matters
- Coordinate corporate policies and processes with operational goals
- Contribute to the economic work and tasks of the Executive Vice President
- Review operations and provide technical recommendations for project negotiation
- Analyze alternatives for economic policy formulation and postures
- Establish and nurture connections within the IDB Group and external partners
- Generate and share knowledge on effective strategies and insights gained from experience
- Contribute to the training and development of others
Qualifications - External
What you will need:
- Education: Masterโs degree (PhD preferred) in economics and graduate or undergraduate studies in journalism, political science, public relations or other areas related to communication will be a plus.
- Experience: A minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in economic policy analysis, strategic communications, strategic advisory, and/or evaluation. Experience in another Multilateral Development Bank will be a plus.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required. Outstanding writing skills in English will be a plus.

Requirements:
- Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration:
International Staff Contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
