The Compliance Vice Presidency (CMPVP) of the IBRD, under the Vice President, Compliance, is responsible for establishing and overseeing the World Bankโ€™s privacy framework under the WBG Privacy Policy.ย  In May 2018, the World Bank Group (WBG) adopted a high-level, principles-based privacy policy reflecting international privacy standards (the Privacy Policy), which became operational on February 1, 2021.

Under CMPVP, the Data Privacy Office (DPO) is responsible for overseeing the processing of personal data by the World Bank. The DPO has established a privacy program with implementing documentation, technical and organizational measures, and training and outreach activities to operationalize the Privacy Policy at the Bank.ย 


CMPVP is recruiting an individual as an Extended Term Consultant (ETC) to provide research combined with analytical support on various workstreams within the World Bank Data Privacy Program. This role will play a critical part in advancing privacy practices at the World Bank, including advising on a range of privacy, data protection and compliance initiatives.ย 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

โ€ข Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in areas of data privacyย 

โ€ข Provide specialized research support on privacy issues, while maintaining the knowledge base and updating various tools and products as needed.ย 

โ€ข Assist team with privacy processes to ensure we meet our obligations under the program.ย 

โ€ข Help draft and/or edit the development of Briefs, Talking points and speeches for Principals.ย 

โ€ข Work closely with team to identify and prioritize research questions and research topics.ย 

โ€ข Develop and design outreach, awareness building, knowledge event with internal and external audiences

โ€ข Work as part of the team to design, coordinate, implement Data Privacy Dayย 

โ€ข Contribute towards webinars, Annual and Spring meeting events

โ€ข Carry out web-based research on data privacy topics. Review global features, platforms and initiatives to keep track of and provide practical risk mitigation strategies.ย 

โ€ข Communicate results and illustrate suggestions in compelling and creative ways to diverse audiences.ย 

โ€ข Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Selection Criteria

โ€ข Educational Degree: Masterโ€™sย degree in law, political science, international relations or similar field, with a minimum 2 years of professional experienceย or an equivalent combination of education and experience.ย 

โ€ข Experience with global privacy laws and regulations, especially those relevant for international organizations.ย 

โ€ข Experience with research regarding privacy and data use.ย 

โ€ข Experience conveying research findings and implications to diverse audiences.ย 

โ€ข Strong oral and written communications skills, including the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, assemble and present information and data clearly in presentations, briefs and reports.ย 

โ€ข Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.ย 

โ€ข Hands-on experience in a regulated financial institution, multilateral development bank, university and/or other similar setting working on development and implementation of Privacy Program.

โ€ข Proven analytics experience, including in generating regular reports, data collection, analysis and synthesis, creating reporting dashboards, other relevant experience.

โ€ข Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and other Microsoft Office applications, or other data & analytics tools and systems, such as Tableau or others.

โ€ข Proven ability to work in a team and intercultural environment, with minimal supervision.

โ€ข Hands-on and action-oriented approach.

โ€ข Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

โ€ข Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, development work.

โ€ข Energy, personal integrity, curiosity, interest in learning, innovative and creative.
