Your responsibilities
As a Database Software Engineer, you will join the Geodetic Metrology Group within the Beams Department which provides metrology and alignment for components installed in the accelerators, their beam transfer lines and the physics experiments throughout the CERN complex.
The Survey Database is a crucial part of the workflow, not only for the survey teams realigning continuously the components, but also for the physicists and engineers to improve the beam quality.
In this role, you will contribute to the Engineering to Alignment (E2A) project, that aims at improving efficiency and quality of the accelerator data workflow.
Specifically, you will:
Maintain the database and its interface;Improve daily-used features;Review the existing infrastructure in terms of design, performance, scalability, technologies lifetime and interoperability with other CERN systems;Collaboration and exchange knowledge with other Developers at CERN;Analyse existing commercial and open-source solutions, considering factors like scalability and future requirements. Propose a renovation plan on the basis of your analysis; Write the functional and technical specifications of the renovated database;Elaborate a detailed development plan with clear milestones and an estimate of the resources required for each step.Your profile
Skills and/or knowledge
Technical skills/knowledge:
Expertise in programming languages such as SQL, PL/SQL and Oracle tools;Knowledge of database design principles, database modelling and optimization;Knowledge of web programming languages such as HTML/CSS and JavaScript would be an asset;Knowledge of data security best practiced would be an asset.Soft skills:
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills;Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities;Attention to detail and accuracy; Organizational skills to evaluate resources and timelines.Language skills:
Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.Eligibility criteria:
You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.You have a professional background in Database software engineer (or a related field) and have either: a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.Additional Information
