Terms of ReferenceUNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship with the World Bank โ UNHCR Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement (Joint Data Center) at UNHCR in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Organizational Context
The Joint Data Center is a collaboration between two multilateral institutions โ the World Bank and UNHCR โ joining efforts and expertise towards improving the quality and quantity of data for evidence-based policy decisions and responses to global forced displacement crises. The collaboration between the World Bank and the UNHCR builds on their on-going joint initiatives on forced displacement including analytical work and microdata collection.
The mission of the Center is to enhance the ability of stakeholders to make timely and evidence-informed decisions that can improve the lives of affected people. The Joint Data Center leverages partnerships and innovation in its focus on the collection, analysis, dissemination and use of primary microdata that enables policymaking, programming and research. This includes demographic and socioeconomic data, including on income, skills, education, health, and economic activity on refugees, internally displaced persons, stateless people, returnees, asylum seekers and host populations.
Duties and Responsibilities
The main responsibilities will include:
โข Analyzing data evidence and preparing descriptive analytical summaries to support JDC activities, including proof-of-concept analysis and quality assurance.
โข Editing and proof-reading technical documents covering data and economics
โข Contributing to literature reviews on the issue of forced displacement (focusing on quantitative analyses) and draft of topical summaries.
โข Supporting team members in the drafting and editing of blogs, social media content, papers, and presentations to support dissemination and events.
โข Collaborating with team members to prepare and execute events, internal and external meetings, including notetaking and production of supporting documentation.
โข Performing other tasks as needed
Minimum Qualifications Required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
โข Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by IAU/UNESCO; and
โข Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
โข Hold a Bachelorโs degree equivalent or higher in a subject such as Economics, Political Sciences, International Studies, Health Studies or similar, with a proven quantitative focus; or in the field of Statistics or Quantitative Methods;
โข Have a demonstrated knowledge of handling, cleaning and preparation of microdata;
โข Have practical experience of working with data handling and analysis packages, such as R, python or Stata;
โข Have a demonstrated interest in forced displacement issues and/or experience working in this area;
โข Display full command of written and oral English, including strong drafting skills;
โข Have excellent research skills;
โข Be able to work well independently as well as in an intercultural team; and
โข Be available to work full time (40 hours per week) throughout the duration of the internship.
Location and Conditions
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8.30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the JDC team at UN City, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Shortlisted candidates might be required to sit for a written test. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified. No late applications will be accepted.
Depending on the circumstances, there is a possibility the successful candidate will perform certain duties remotely and/or from at home.
For non-EU candidates, D-visa needs to be obtained before traveling to Denmark which takes 4 to 6 weeks. The office will provide assistance on visa-related issues.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
Unless provided or paid by their sponsoring entities, UNHCR reimburses internsโ travel costs to/from the duty station.
