Project Background:
The Solomon Islands Senior Secondary Education Improvement Project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), aims to enhance the quality, relevance, and gender-responsiveness of senior secondary education (Years 10-12) to support a climate-resilient economy. With the Solomon Islands facing growing vulnerability to climate change and natural disasters, the project supports curriculum reform to equip students with practical skills and knowledge for adaptive livelihoods and sustainable development. The project includes the modernization of curricula, improvement of assessment practices, development of teaching and learning materials. MEHRD (Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development) is the implementing agency, working in close partnership with development stakeholders and consulting teams.

Position Summary:
The Curriculum Development Officer / Deputy Team Leader (National) plays a vital role in supporting the successful implementation of senior secondary curriculum reform in the Solomon Islands. As the principal national counterpart to the international Team Leader, this position is responsible for ensuring strong coordination between the consulting team and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD). The role is embedded in a highly collaborative reform process that seeks to align the national curriculum with emerging priorities such as climate resilience, gender equality, and inclusive education.

The Deputy Team Leader will assist with the drafting and contextualization of curriculum frameworks, syllabi, and teaching and learning materials (TLMs), while facilitating workshops, validation events, and stakeholder consultations. A key focus of this role is to ensure the curriculum content and delivery approaches are grounded in the realities of the Solomon Islands education system, culturally relevant, and practically oriented. The Officer will serve as a key liaison with MEHRDโ€™s Curriculum Development Division and help manage communication between international consultants and national stakeholders.

Equally important is the roleโ€™s emphasis on capacity development and mentorship. The Deputy Team Leader will support the day-to-day coordination of curriculum writing teams, guide the work of national subject experts, and contribute to documentation and reporting processes. By fostering ownership among local staff and building institutional capacity, the Deputy ensures the sustainability of curriculum reforms and contributes to long-term system strengthening efforts in senior secondary education.
