About the United Nations University (UNU)

About the Institute: UNU-BIOLAC

Located in Caracas, Venezuela, the Programme for Biotechnology in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNU-BIOLAC) was established in 1988 as a capacity development programme in biotechnology that is an integral part of the UNU system.

UNU-BIOLACโ€™s primary goal is to provide tools to facilitate training and research in biotechnology, thus contributing to the economic and social development of the Latin American region. These actions are taken to balance science, technology, and modern society.

The creation of UNU-BIOLAC was considered a first step in establishing an international institute for the development of biotechnology in Latin America and the Caribbean with headquarters located in Venezuela.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the UNU-BIOLAC Programme Coordinator and the administrative & programmatic direction of the UNU Headquarters, the Information and Networking Assistant will perform duties as follows:

1. Provides administrative support to the Programme Coordinator, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
Manage travel arrangements of the Coordinator and other UNU-BIOLAC personnel, IAC members, and related invited and partners as necessary;
Fulfill duties as a receptionist for visitors and contact Centre (telephone and email);
Serves as the main Focal Point for Communications, ICT, and Travel, and as a second focal point for Procurement.

2. Database and social media maintenance
Maintenance and update of the BIOLAC library and databases;
Preparation and update of dissemination materials (including website information updates);
Preparation of the UNU-BIOLAC monthly Newsletter:
Support of web material production;
Follow up on the UNU-BIOLACโ€™s Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook communities;
Support of UNU media campaigns, worldwide and locally.

3. Applications and management for academic activities
Channeling (receiving, revising, sending for evaluation, approval or rejection and follow-up) of the courses, fellowships and travel grants applications;

Follow up on the evaluation of applications of the aforementioned academic activities;
Follow up on approved academic activities until their completion.

4. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor


Key performance indicators

To produce weekly insights for social media maintenance. To respond to and follow any inquiry related to UNU-BIOLAC on email, website, and social media channels To maintain and update of Database of Experts and Participants from all programs of UNU-BIOLAC.

Qualifications

Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Biology. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and tools, web pages, and social media. Excellent interpersonal relations; ability to easily work and communicate with others, especially with people with multi-cultural backgrounds. Advanced knowledge of photo and video editing for web and social media posting. High-level knowledge and use of English and Spanish are required. Knowledge of another language (e.g., Portuguese, French, Dutch, and/or Japanese) is an asset.

Duration

The successful candidate will be retained under a Consultant Contract (CTC). Consultants engaged by UNU may not provide services for more than twenty-four (24) months in a thirty-six (36) month period.

UNU is not liable for any taxes that may be levied on the remuneration you receive under this contract. Payment of any such taxes remains the sole responsibility of PSA holders.

Remuneration

UNU offers attractive remuneration that will be commensurate with experience and based on a daily rate to be submitted as part of the application procedure.
