    The post is located in the WIPO Japan Office (WJO), Tokyo. This Office is responsible for effective delivery of WIPO's products and services to Intellectual Property (IP). The WJO is part of a network of External Offices (EOs) that add clear value, efficiency and effectiveness to the delivery of strategic goals of the Organization in a coordinated and complementary way with WIPO Headquarters (HQ).

    1. Purpose Statement

      ย 

      The incumbent assists the Director in conceptualizing and implementing the work program of the WJO for the promotion of WIPO's mandate and for improving the quality and timeliness of WIPO services for the protection and enforcement of IP rights (IPRs).

      1. Reporting Lines

        The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director of the WJO.

        2.ย ย ย ย ย  Duties and Responsibilities

        ย 

        The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:

        ย 

        a.ย ย  Provide support to the Director in setting WJO's program and workplan to enhance WIPO's services in Japan;

        ย 

        b.ย ย  Strengthen and develop relations with IP stakeholders and provide policy advice on the promotion of IPR protection and WIPO services in Japan and its neighboring region;

        ย 

        c.ย ย  Lead public relations activities and the promotion of WIPO's services including WIPO Global IP protection services, alternative dispute resolution services, global infrastructure services, global IP databases, and global issues partnerships;

        ย 

        d.ย ย  Develop and maintain contacts with officials of the host government with a view to promoting cooperation, at policy and technical levels;

        e.ย ย  Develop and maintain contacts with officials from WIPO HQ, the other external offices, and intergovernmental agencies based in Japan with a view to building synergy and complementary effects;

        ย 

        f.ย ย ย  Organize meetings for IP stakeholders in Japan and its neighboring region in consultation with the HQ of WIPO, the host government and other co-organizers to promote WIPO's services;

        ย 

        g.ย ย  Manage support staff of the WJO and evaluate their work;

        ย 

        h.ย ย  Assist the Director with the management of the activities and responsibilities of the WJO;

        ย 

        i.ย ย ย  Represent Director at international meetings on IP matters as well as national meetings;

        ย 

        j.ย ย ย  Perform other related duties as required.

        3.ย ย ย ย ย  Requirements

        ย 

        Education (Essential)

        Advanced university degree in management, business administration, international relations, law, science, economics or other related field. A first level university degree plus two years of relevant experience in addition to the experience requested below may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

        ย 

        Education (Desirable)

        Specialization in intellectual property.

        ย 

        Experience (Essential)

        At least seven years of related professional experience in one or more of the following fields: patents, trademarks, industrial designs and copyright, including international experience.
