Result of Service1. Preparation of written materials at the request of Co-Facilitators of the Global Digital Compact; 2. Preparation of specific material and briefs on various themes in the Global Digital Compact, including but not limited to the areas mentioned in the report โ€œOur Common Agendaโ€ 3. Greater focus on and harnessing of synergies between Geneva and New York-based processes and work on digital cooperation, including as contributions to and support for the Summit of the Future and other digital-related aspects of the Our Common Agenda Report. Work LocationNew York & Home-Based Expected duration12 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Special Adviser to the Secretary-Generalโ€™s Envoy on Technology will report to the Under-Secretary-General (USG). His/her duties include: โ€ข Coordinates the development of UN system digital cooperation objectives and priorities in the context of intergovernmental deliberations on digital governance โ€ข Formulates and supports coherent UN engagement in intergovernmental processes related to digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence. Coordinates work in different areas with other departments, organizations or entities of the United Nations System, donors and agencies as appropriate. โ€ข Determines priorities for outputs and takes responsibility for their timely delivery, ensures high quality standards in all outputs including reports, data and technical inputs. โ€ข Coordinates and supports the preparation of reports and inputs to intergovernmental bodies such as the General Assembly and other policymaking organs, as appropriate. โ€ข Reports to intergovernmental bodies on programme performance or on programmatic/substantive issues, as appropriate. โ€ข Participates in meetings, seminars, etc., on substantive-related issues; supports the Organization at international, regional, inter-agency meetings, seminars and conference; provides programmatic/substantive expertise on an issue, or participates in programmatic/substantive and organizational discussions with representatives of other institutions. โ€ข Inter-agency consultations and discussions around key digital and technology priorities โ€ข Enhance engagement and consultation with key Geneva-based stakeholders include UN agencies, international organizations, forums and entities, private sector, academia, the technical community and civil society โ€ข Active participation in IGF and Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) meetings and working groups and feeding in resulting inputs into processes related to the Global Digital Compact. โ€ข Perform other related duties as requested by the senior management of the Organization. Qualifications/special skillsโ€ข A minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, diplomacy, science and technology or related fields, including multilateral negotiations is required. โ€ข Direct experience in the area of digital technology diplomacy and governance is required. โ€ข Experience in networking with academic institutions, research organizations, think tanks and industry in areas of science and technology and multilateral governance is required. โ€ข Experience leading teams as well as managing teams and projects is required. โ€ข Proven experience of UN intergovernmental and coordination processes is required. LanguagesFluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage. Additional InformationThe position is located in the Office of the Secretary-General's Envoy on Technology (OSET). Building on the work of the High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation and consultations of multi-stakeholder roundtable groups, the United Nations Secretary-General issued a Roadmap for Digital Cooperation (A/74/821) which addresses how the international community can better harness the opportunities presented by digital technologies while addressing their challenges. The Secretary-General's report \"Our Common Agenda\" issued in September 2021 prioritizes the digital space and the need to \"protect the online space and strengthen its governance\". It also proposes a Global Digital Compact to be developed through a multistakeholder track. OSET leads the implementation of the Secretary-General's vision on digital cooperation by working closely with various UN entities and multi-stakeholder groups, facilitating dialogue to accelerate global digital cooperation, seizing on the opportunities that are presented by technology โ€“ while mitigating the risks โ€“ so that progress towards achieving the Goals by 2030 can be made collectively, as well as carrying out other related duties and responsibilities assigned by the Secretary-General, including follow up actions from the report \"Our Common Agenda\".
