The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is seeking an innovative and multi-skilled individual to develop a scaling, financing, and investment hub strategy.
With its new strategy for 2024-2030, IWMI has identified scaling, financing, and investment as important levers to achieve its outcomes. This consultancy aims to assess IWMI\u2019s current scaling efforts, capacity, and capabilities, and to develop a strategy for establishing a scaling, financing, and investment unit for water innovations across the organization.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Take stock of and capitalize on IWMI\u2019s work in scaling innovations, finance, investment, and business models. Identify gaps and opportunities for growth in IWMI\u2019s portfolio on scaling, innovations, and finance to further advance IWMI as a global leader in water innovation and impact. Develop a Sc-FI strategy aligned with IWMI\u2019s overall strategy, which includes components on hub structure and function, governance, resource needs, partnerships, and communication.

Requirements
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential:
MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, International sustainable development/management, Development economics, or a closely related field, coupled with a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience.
Desirable:
PhD in one of the aforementioned fields, with a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPEREINCE REQUIRED:
Essential:
Proven track record of developing units/business structures, functions, and operations within organizations aimed at scaling R&D. Proven track record of working on innovation scaling, financial ecosystems, and linking innovation scaling with financial investments for impact delivery, with a focus on converting them into business opportunities. Proven experience working at the intersection of the public sector, private sector, and academia. Proven track record in analyzing and developing business units targeted at scaling innovations within organizations. Proven track record in developing operational strategy documents and financing modalities for business units.
Desirable:
Knowledge and experience in interdisciplinary approaches, action research for scaling and sustainability, scaling science, impact delivery, and some field experience in Africa/Asia. Knowledge and experience in linking research/science to development activities/functions in units/businesses. Knowledge of water management, agriculture, or climate change within international organizations is an advantage. Experience in the research-for-development space of non-profit organizations and an understanding of donor-driven funding. A strong track record of relevant publications, including scientific papers, communication products, or other materials.

Highly motivated with a strong proactive drive for results and responsiveness, taking personal ownership and accountability to meet deadlines. Ability to engage with stakeholders, especially donor organizations. Proven track record of relevant analytical work, demonstrated by completed assignment reports. Innovative mindset and ability to inspire people. Detail-oriented, well-structured, and organized.

This is an internationally hired consultancy; therefore, individuals with relevant abilities are encouraged to apply. IWMI offers a competitive rate for this assignment. The duration of the contract will be for a period of three (3) months.
