The Migration and Development Department of IOM Nepal collaborates closely with the Government of Nepal to implement various projects aimed at enhancing capacities in migration, development, private sector participation, protection of migrants, human rights and governance. These initiatives focus on evidence-based policy and program planning, aligning with the countryโ€™s National Plan, the annual plans of relevant ministries, the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), and Nepalโ€™s National Implementation Strategic Framework of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM).

A national consultant will be hired to support the team in strengthening of migration policy dialogues, enhance diaspora engagement to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and GCM, and contribute to a multi-stakeholder dialogue process for improved migration governance.

  1. Support in the operationalization of NFMD, its Secretariat and implementation of work plans, under the guidance of the Head of Migration and Development Department. Monitor the implementation of activities to ensure work is proceeding according to established plans; analyze implementation challenges and make recommendations for adjusting implementation modalities and work plans to best reflect changing field conditions, in close coordination with other project staff and relevant authorities.
  2. Support the preparation and delivery of capacity-building initiatives, consultation, and stakeholder coordination activities, including planning and conducting field visits, training workshops, and consultation meetings, including support for the facilitation of Migration School and similar initiatives.
  3. Support the Head of the Migration and Development Department in activities to improve access to evidence-based diaspora engagement so Nepal can leverage diaspora skills, knowledge, and experience for future prosperity.
  4. Support the strengthening of the Nepal Forum on Migration and Development Secretariat through drafting of the terms of reference, structure including supporting the secretariat for preparing documents for events and writing reports as required.
  5. Coordinate the preparation of documentation, conduct mapping of existing initiatives of diaspora engagement in Nepal, analyze and summarize information, draft reports, and prepare briefings and presentations on migration and development-related issues, in particular on diaspora engagement and migration and development linkages.
  6. Track, compile, and present information on new developments, trends, and policies in migration, including diaspora engagement, climate change, private sector partnerships, human rights, and development.
  7. Undertake duty travel for project events as required, maintaining effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, partners, United Nations agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors, and other stakeholders relevant to IOM projects.
  8. Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
    • Masterโ€™s degree, preferably in Social Science, Law or a related discipline from an accredited academic institution with minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience; OR
    • Bachelorโ€™s degree in the above field with minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience.
