About this position

The Social Sector (SCL) is a multidisciplinary team convinced that investing in people is the way to improve lives and overcome the development challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean. Jointly with the countries in the region, the Social Sector formulates public policy solutions to reduce poverty and improve the delivery of education, work, social protection, and health services. The objective is to advance a more productive region, with equal opportunities for men and women, and greater inclusion of the most vulnerable groups.

The IDB Group helps Latin American and Caribbean countries promote skills development and lifelong learning as a strategy to ensure that citizens can contribute productively to society, improve their well-being, and be good citizens. To this end, it works with the countries of the region in five lines of action:

  1. ensure that people have equitable access to relevant, high-quality learning opportunities throughout their lives.
  2. strengthen quality and relevance assurance mechanisms.
  3. consolidate and develop better financing and co-financing mechanisms to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and coverage of skills development opportunities.
  4. take advantage of the use of technology to increase equity and access to skills development opportunities and improve the efficiency of skills development systems; and
  5. actively promote the generation and use of evidence to inform decisions about skills development.

    We are looking for a results oriented, systematic and resourceful Education consultant. As Education consultant you will provide research and development support in the area of global citizenship skills.

    You will work in the Division of Education (SCL/EDU) part of the Social Sector Department. This team is responsible for supporting education systems of Latin America and the Caribbean countries to reach five dimensions that will contribute to making them successful in promoting effective teaching and learning among all children and youth.

    The objective of this consultancy is to provide research support to the global citizenship skills agenda, including coordination of the piloting of assessment instruments in Belize.

    What youโ€™ll do

    Support the development of global citizenship toolkits for four programmatic areas: Peace Education; Gender and Diversity; Civic Education; and Green Citizenship skills. This will include:

    1. Needs Assessment and Literature Review

    Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to identify key areas of focus for each toolkit.
    Review existing literature and best practices in the fields of Peace Education, Gender and Diversity, Civic Education, and Green Citizenship Skills. Compile findings into a report to guide the development of the toolkits.

    2. Development of Toolkit Frameworks

    Draft detailed frameworks for each toolkit, outlining the structure, key topics, learning outcomes, and methodologies. Ensure that the frameworks align with IDBโ€™s GCED objectives and principles.

    3. Content Creation

    Develop engaging and interactive content for each toolkit, including lesson plans, activities, case studies, multimedia resources, and assessment tools. Ensure that content is culturally sensitive, inclusive, and accessible to diverse audiences. Incorporate real-world examples and practical applications to enhance relevance and impact.

    4. Stakeholder Consultation

    Assist the GCED Team in engaging with key stakeholders, including educators, learners, subject matter experts, and community leaders, to gather feedback and validate content.
    Organize focus groups and interviews to ensure the toolkits meet the needs and expectations of the target audience.

    5. Pilot Testing

    Help design a pilot testing phase to evaluate the effectiveness of the toolkits in real-world educational settings.

    6. Dissemination

    Help develop a dissemination strategy to ensure wide reach and adoption of the toolkits.
    Create digital and print versions of the toolkits.
