About this position
The connectivity, Markets and Finance Division designs financing solutions across critical sectors to mobilize resources for inclusive and sustainable development. Through its work, CMF is focused on promoting financial inclusion and productive financing, designing financial solutions for sustainable infrastructure including connectivity, and supporting efforts to increase climate financing and promote biodiversity conservation in the Amazon. As the IDB seeks to strengthen collaboration with partners and other multilateral organizations, the division also plays a central role in key initiatives to mobilize private sector resources including as Secretariat of the Green Coalition for the Amazon.
In this context, we are seeking an attorney to support a growing number of strategic initiatives, including the Green Coalition for the Amazon. The consultant will also provide legal support as required in the design and execution of CMF operations.
What youโll do:
The consultant will provide legal expertise and guidance to ensure strategic initiativesโ compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Areas of support include:
- Legal Compliance: Monitor and assess activities, policies, and decisions made in the context of strategic initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable local, national, and international laws and regulations.
- Documents Review and record: Review, draft, and negotiate documents. Ensure that legal documents reflect the corresponding interests and objectives. The consultant will also maintain accurate records of legal documents, contracts agreements etc.
- Risk Assessment: Identify legal risks and issues associated with coalition activities and provide recommendations to mitigate those risks.
- Data Privacy and Security: support review of data privacy and security practices to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with data protection laws.
- Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving legal disputes, conflicts, and grievances. Provide legal guidance during mediation, arbitration, or litigation processes, if necessary.
- Governance Support: Ensure that the Green Coalition's governance structures, such as the Steering Committee and Technical Committee, operate in accordance with legal requirements and established bylaws.
- External Legal Counsel: When necessary, support engagement with external legal counsel for specialized legal matters and support coordination of relationships with external legal firms.
- Operations: provide legal support as required in the design and execution of operations.
- Other: as required by the supervisor of this consultancy.
What you'll need
- Education: Master's degree from an accredited law school in a Bank member country.
- Experience: Minimum of five years of professional experience as a lawyer, including demonstrated analytical, drafting and negotiation skills. Strong experience in law research, analysis and advice relating to international transactions or international development. Legal work in international transactions; international organizations and/or public sector policy and regulation.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements:
- Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
