Consultancy Assignment - Logistician

Overview

CIFOR (Center for International Forestry Research) is a non-profit scientific institution that conducts research on the most pressing issues for the management of forests and landscapes around the world. Through a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, we seek to improve human well-being, protect the environment, and increase equity. To do this, we conduct advanced research, promote the development of the capacities of our partners and actively dialogue with the actors involved, to inform on policies and practices that affect forests and populations.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, CIFOR in collaboration with several partners carries out scientific research, conservation, and biodiversity protection activities mainly around the Yangambi Biosphere Reserve.

In this regard and within the framework of these projects, CIFOR is looking for a Logistician.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Ensure the permanent updating of the inventory.
  2. Ensure the maintenance and proper monitoring of the cartage (motorcycles, vehicles, canoes, canoes, raft)
  3. Organize the mobility of project staff and visitors as needed.
  4. Organize all logistics for visitors (transport, accommodation, etc.).
  5. Supervise and coordinate logisticians assigned to the landscape.
  6. Report regularly to the activity coordinator on the progress of logistics activities.
  7. Work closely with accounting in relation to purchases made.

    Others responsibility:

    • Supervise the purchase of material goods according to the approved needs statements for the various activity managers (about ten intervention sectors with consumables; machines and equipment; seeds, etc.)
    • Ensure the supervision and verification of the various stocks by guaranteeing the availability of the equipment necessary for the success of the activities.

      Education, knowledge and experience

      • • Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics. • Qualification in logistics and/or proven experience. • Good knowledge of IT tools for stock management. • Excellent planning capacity. • Good team spirit. • Notions of management and accounting. • Experience in cartage management. • Good knowledge of spoken and written French • Knowledge of local languages (Swahili and Lingala) is an asset. • Ability to make decisions and work in a team. • Excellent ability to work under pressure in remote areas. • Excellent ability to work in a multicultural context

        Personal attributes and competencies

        • Competence in personal organization and priority setting, with ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
        • Excellent interpersonal relations, teamwork, good collaboration, initiative and exchange of skills with other team members.
        • Know how to adapt to field conditions

          • This is a consultancy position.
          • Period of the consultancy is 1 (one) year.
          • Work location: The place of work is the landscape of Yangambi having as main base Kisangani.
