BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The junior consultant will perform specialized communications activities and contribute to the development of sensitization strategies and products that support WFP programmesโ functions and create communication materials that maintain and enhance the visibility of WFP and support fundraising activities with donors. This job will be in WFP Yemen, based in the Aden Area Office and will report directly to the Head of the Aden Area Office and, in his or her absence, the OIC of Aden Area Office.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Liaise with WFPโs programmatic units to create and implement sensitization strategies for new WFP initiatives and write and design community messages that are understandable to the diverse recipients of WFPโs support.
- Contribute to the gathering of content for donors and social media by working with programmatic units to plan field visits, applying for filming permits, conducting interviews with beneficiaries, capturing photos and video, and writing shot lists for commissioned videos and photos.
- Process collected content by translating interviews conducted from Arabic to English and adeptly transforming beneficiary stories into compelling written narratives and engaging videos that are suitable for dissemination across media platforms.
- Facilitate the incoming missions of WFPโs management and international journalists/videographersโ by creating itineraries and coordinating access to WFPโs program sites.
- Expand the capacity of cooperating partnersโ communications counterparts and local media by giving feedback on human interest stories and contributing to local trainings.
- Contribute to WFPโs community feedback mechanism by drafting responses to frequently asked questions for programmatic activities, ensuring the hotline colleaguesโ awareness about new initiatives, and adjusting messages to clear up points of confusion.
- Assist in amplifying WFPโs profile in the field and amongst partners by contributing to the design, procurement, and distribution of visibility items.
- Ensure strong internal communication and reporting in the office by compiling programmatic information and creating factsheets, newsletters, situational reports (sitreps), meeting notes, and presentations that can be easily disseminated.
- Make certain that the Programmes Unit is factoring communication materials into its financial agreements and facilitate the procurement of funds for communications activities.
- Support Aden Area Officeโs management and other units with internal reporting, drafting talking points, editing mission-sensitive/programmatic documents, and creating infographics, videos, and presentations for cooperating partners and government authorities.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: First University degree in Areas Studies, Political Science, International Development, International Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Literature, or another relevant field
Experience: One to three years of relevant professional work experience in communications roles within the humanitarian sector
Languages: Fluency (level C) in the English language is required. Fluency (level C) or intermediate knowledge (level B) of Arabic is desirable.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Strong team player who can establish effective working relations with persons of different national and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to perform detailed work, work of a confidential nature, and handle a large volume of work under time constraints.
- Understanding of the context and culture of the duty station. Previous experience living in the Middle East desirable.
- Experience using CANVA and Adobe products such as Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Terms & Conditions:
- The applicant shouldn't be a Yemeni national.
- This position is required for a period of consecutive 11 months with a possibility of extension subject to the operational needs and availability of funding in Yemen Country Office.
- Consultancy contracts will be subject to a mandatory break in service after a period of service of 11 continuous months.
