The USAID/India Strengthening Landscape Management & Conservation (SLMC) is a 5-year activity that will work in concert with the Government of India (GoI), in particular with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), to enhance the management of ecologically important landscapes for biodiversity conservation, human well-being and climate benefits. The activity will be contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved carbon sequestration, and enhanced environmental benefits for the country. SLMCโ€™s three inter-related objectives across the Central Indian Landscapes and Sundarbans landscape are: Improve management of protected areas, buffer areas and corridors; Enhanced inclusive livelihoods from ecosystem services; and Institutionalized systems and practices that support sustainable landscape conservation. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Communications Manager will be responsible for managing SLMCโ€™s information, communication, and outreach efforts. S/he will ensure communications and marketing materials adhere to the guidelines in the approved USAID Branding and Marking Plan and will work closely with the program team. S/he will be primarily responsible for ensuring comprehensive documentation of activities and achievements, including drafting success stories, reports, and press releases, and developing outreach and information campaigns via traditional and social media. Lead the scheduling, writing, preparation and editing for quarterly and annual reports, success stories, and ad-hoc activity reports as needed, working closely with program and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) staff (and utilizing the M&E database and grants database) to gather content and information. Contribute to SLMCโ€™s Stakeholder Engagement and Plan and develop and ensure implementation of the activity's Communications Plan. Ensure compliance with the activity's USAID branding and marking plan and ADS 320 and ADS 558. Utilize information in the monitoring and evaluation database and grants database to compile reports on the activity's status and impact, including success stories, press releases, quarterly reports, semi-annual reports, annual reports, and ad hoc reports as needed. Ensure the necessary multimedia consents and copyright compliance for any photo/video/audio content production, including for children and vulnerable communities. Generate program reports and other documents as requested by the Chief of Party, activity leads or USAID. Assist in the translation of activity communications, outreach, meeting, and training materials from English to Hindi/Hindi to English, and assist in the planning, preparation, coordination, and implementation of SLMCโ€™s outreach events (such as press briefings, roundtable discussions, briefings for partner organizations, the U.S. Embassy, USAID Mission in Delhi, and Government of India. Assist SLMCโ€™s and its activity partners if/as needed to develop outreach dissemination materials such as posters, social media content, radio scripts and other media. Maintain connections with local partners, media and other stakeholders who can help share information about the activity with a wider audience. Help the SLMC activity and team members broadcast a clear understanding of the activity's identity and mission through consistent use of standard messages integrated into all communications. Prepare, write, or assist in the preparation of press releases and other materials (English and Hindi) promoting the SLMC activity, which may include talking points photographs and captions. Prepare one page information sheets, updates and status reports regarding activity efforts as required. Post on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) and prepare content for the Winrock website including blog posts, tweets, and other content. Lead media outreach and coverage of key activity events. Oversee preparation and writing of press releases and other press-related activities. Write and produce a quarterly newsletter in English and Hindi for distribution to activity stakeholders to share activity progress, success stories, and lessons learned. Other tasks and duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND: Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree and 7+ years of experience; Masterโ€™s degree and 5+ years of experience. Degree in Communications, Journalism, Professional Writing, Public Relations, or related field preferred. Experience: 4-5 years developing communications and marketing materials on international development projects (preferably USAID). 3 years working on natural resources management and local organization development programs. Excellent oral and written skills with fluency in Hindi and English. Experience with editing and writing documents for proposals and/or reports. Experience writing success stories and media releases highly desired. Skills: Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and Microsoft presentation software. Knowledge of USAID branding and marking policies preferred. Flexibility, creativity, and ability to maintain a rapid and demanding pace of work. Graphic design and photo/video experience preferred.
