This position will be hybrid requiring 8 days per month in office. You can be based in our office in Washington DC, Mexico City, Brazil, Colombia London, The Hague, or Nairobi. There isnโt a silver bullet or a single pressure point to tackle the climate crisis. It will require an army of actors, a variety of pathways and a range of interventions in the right places. Tailoring approaches to these unique situations is the sweet spot for the Climate-Economics-Finance Program at World Resources Institute. We help businesses, policymakers and civil society at the local, national and international levels advance the deep structural shifts necessary to address climate change.

Reporting to the programโs Communication Director, your strategic vision and detailed-oriented approach will ensure our team is impactful and works as a cohesive unit. You will be responsible for developing and carrying out communications strategies for various projects and work closely with colleagues to support major communications campaigns for the year, such as encouraging countries to develop ambitious national climate plans ahead of COP30 and achieving a robust new global climate finance goal at COP29.
World Resources Institute is looking for a dynamic and experienced Communications Manager to join the Climate-Economics-Finance Program. You will be responsible for employing excellent project management skills to improve coordination and maximize efficiencies across the communications team and crafting compelling narratives and messaging around advancing climate action in ways that benefit both people and planet.
What will you do:
Project Management (50%):
- Support the Communications Director in developing a communications strategy, annual goals and tactics to advance the objectives of the Climate-Economics-Finance Program
- Develop and manage project management systems to ensure effective execution of the strategy, achieve timelines and maximize collaboration among communications team members. This includes effective use of Asana for task management and organizing resources on Sharepoint
- Ensure team members are well-coordinated, integrated and supporting each other. Create clear governance around workflows and production processes
- Organize and facilitate team meetings, taking notes and following up on action items
- Engage with the Digital Marketing lead to leverage analytics and associated data to inform our approach
- Identify and facilitate communications-related upskilling opportunities for the Climate-Economics-Finance Program, including engaging with the Core Comms team to organize media trainings, social media trainings, SEO best practices and similar
- Engage regularly with the Development team and incorporate communications-related outcomes in funder reports
Editorial Support (25%):
- Craft compelling narratives and talking points to articulate what global challenges the Climate-Economics-Finance Program is addressing and what we are doing to overcome those challenges
- Write high-quality articles and other materials that effectively communicate complex climate-related topics to diverse audiences
- Ghostwrite op-eds and thought leadership pieces for senior experts within the Climate-Economics-Finance Program
- Edit and proofread content produced by team members to ensure consistency and clarity
- Draft press releases and media advisories and respond to media inquiries
- Manage the web presence for the Climate-Economics-Finance Program on WRI.org in close collaboration with communications team members. This will involve ensuring this information is up-to-date, highlights our latest perspectives and research, is organized in a way that is easy for our audiences to navigate and is informed by SEO best practices
- Ensure relevant content on WRIโs intranet stays up-to-date and provides useful information to program staff
Communications Strategy (25%):
- Develop and carry out engaging and strategic communications for a range of projects within the Climate-Economics-Finance Program. The suite of projects you will support will evolve over time to meet the needs of the program
- Determine which tactics are most impactful (and within budget) to inform and influence specific audiences
- Organize webinars and in-person events
- Lead on producing communication materials for the projects you are overseeing, including op-eds, blog posts, media advisories, email blasts and more
- Support media engagement in coordination with the media team
- Work with program, research and other communication teams to produce materials and products to advance goals of WRIโs Climate Program
- Collaborate with WRIโs core communication team on media, social media, infographics, video production, website enhancements and more
What will you need:
- Education: You have completed a bachelorโs degree in communications, journalism, environmental studies, or related field
- Experience: You have a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in communications, public relations, or related roles, with a focus on climate, sustainability, or environmental issues
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience producing persuasive and impactful content
- Experience developing and implementing successful communication strategies and/or advocacy campaigns
- Strong project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experience developing meeting agendas, tracking and developing materials, chairing meetings and organizing events
- Knowledge of climate policy and/or other international environmental issues
- Languages: Proficient in written and spoken English
- Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based.
Potential Salary: US salary range is between 96,000 and 110,000 USD. UK: 53 - 67k GBP.NL: 67K โ 84K EUR. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
