Work LocationBrasilia, Brazil Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO) located in Panama City works closely with the 33 countries of the region - including 16 small island developing States, with a population of about 650 million people. The office works to serve the needs of the region and its activities are integrated into the work programs approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). UNEP Country Office in Brazil is a key development partner of the Brazilian government and supports national and sub-national public and private sector institutions and civil society to achieve a more sustainable and inclusive society by creating a new relationship between people and nature, and between economic growth and environmental sustainability. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Under the Supervision of the UNEP Brazil Office Representative and the Communication Focal Point, the intern will be supporting UNEP Brazil Country Office in the assistance of the Communication Team. More specifically, the job will entail the following tasks: โ€ข Contribute in engaging in strategic communications planning and processes that support UNEPโ€™s mission, strengthen the visibility of the organization, and raise public awareness on environmental issues. โ€ข Contribute to maintain and regularly update the UNEP Brazil website as well as the UNEP Brazil social medias. โ€ข Collect background information and contribute to the preparation of pieces, infographics, newsletters, reports, and project documents related to the Officeโ€™s projects. โ€ข Maintain the officeโ€™s mailing list updated and contribute to the office network expansion strategies. โ€ข Contribute with Clipping. โ€ข Support the contact with the media to generate proactive and positive news coverage. โ€ข Assist in the organization of publications, data and files upon request. โ€ข Assist the Communication Focal Point in gathering information relevant to the Office Representative in the elaboration of documents and analysis. โ€ข Collect background information and contribute to the preparation of reports, project documents and working papers namely in environment-related sectors. โ€ข Prepare drafts of documents, correspondence, general reports and overview registry for the Communication Team. โ€ข Help develop graphic materials, edit audio-visual content, prepare PowerPoint and presentations, and other related activities when required. โ€ข Support the organization of workshops, seminars, and missions. โ€ข As required, translate press releases, opinion editorials and other documents from English to Portuguese or Portuguese to English. โ€ข Daily screen incoming correspondence and telephone calls, draft routine correspondence (in Portuguese, English and Spanish) and takes appropriate follow-up action. โ€ข Perform other clerical tasks as required. โ€ข Support other activities of the Country Office as requested. The Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff to which they are assigned to for 6 months. The interns will be responsible for access to appropriate computer hard- and software. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (undergraduate university degree or masterโ€™s) in Media and Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertisement, Marketing, Languages, Translation and or any relevant Communication field OR be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); OR have graduated with a university degree. b. Be computer literate in standard software applications. c. Good knowledge of audiovisual content production and online software for social media and communications, such as Canva, Mailchimp, Mlabs. d. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. e. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. LanguagesFluency in English and Portuguese are required.
