Terms of ReferenceThe Communications Intern will be part of the Media and Communications Unit based in the Brussels office of UNHCRโ€™s Representation for EU Affairs, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands (REUA) for six months. The Unit works on communications and media activities in support of UNHCRโ€™s work on EU, Belgian and Luxembourg matters.

REUA is a Multi Country Office (MCO). REUA works with a range of stakeholders including from the European Union (EU) Institutions and agencies in those countries falling under the MCO structure. We also work hand in hand with UNHCR headquarters, regional bureaux and country offices.

Main duties and responsibilities

Draft daily media summaries (focus on EU affairs)

Support media and social media monitoring (focus on EU affairs)

Report on EU developments and press conferences

Support the Unitโ€™s content production (e.g. web-stories, videos) and events

Provide administrative, logistical and other assistance as required

Support with translations from English to French or vice versa

Provide team cover as needed

In order to be considered eligible for an internship, the following criteria must be fulfilled:

Be a recent graduate (i.e. have completed studies within 2 years of applying) from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO

Have no direct family ties with a UNHCR staff member (including Temporary Appointment holder) nor with a member of the Affiliate Workforce

Have the right to reside and work in Belgium

Excellent command of English, knowledge of French is an advantage

Strong drafting and editing skills

Enthusiasm for all things communications (media, social, digital, events)

Attention to detail

Team-player and professional approach
