Under article 4.2, paragraph (e) of the Staff Regulations, the filling of vacancies in technical cooperation projects does not fall under Annex I of the Staff Regulations and is made by direct selection by the Director-General.

    Technical cooperation appointments are not expected to lead to a career in the ILO and they do not carry any expectation of renewal or conversion to any other type of appointment in the Organization. A one-year fixed-term contract will be given. Extensions of technical cooperation contracts are subject to various elements including the following: availability of funds, continuing need of the functions and satisfactory conduct and performance.

    *Conditions of employment for external candidates: In conformity with existing ILO practice, the appointment of an external candidate will normally be made at the first step of this grade.

    Introduction

    The Communication and Information Management Assistant will be responsible for coordinating different ILO Cairo projects’ communication and visibility activities and will be based in Cairo.

    Reporting lines:
    The Communications and Information Management Assistant will report to the Senior Communications and Information Management Assistant in the ILO Cairo office.

    Specific Duties

    1. Provide specialized support services for the development and dissemination of communication and information products and services ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
    2. Assist the Senior management in coordinating and ensuring consistent media messaging and uploading of content across various channels of public communication.
    3. Assist in media engagement for different projects and activities, including organization of press conferences, and preparation of press kits and talking points, draft press releases and statements.
    4. Develop creative communication, visibility and awareness raising materials to showcase projects’ achievements and document human stories including audio-visual content, social media content, drafting information materials such as: fact sheets, presentations, project flyers, brochures, feature articles, and other materials.
    5. Assist in the production of publications, print and online, and audio-visual products including the procurement of requisite vendors.
    6. Prepare and review communication and information products for layout and design in compliance with applicable standards.
    7. Provide communication and visibility support with regards to organization of events, product launches, press conferences, media interviews, meetings, conferences, workshops, and promotion of publications/ research.
    8. Keep abreast of changes to communication and information management-related techniques, tools, standards, guidelines, and best practices.
    9. Provide administrative and office support services including drafting general correspondence, initiating, and following up on administrative actions.
    10. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

      Required qualifications

      Education

      Completion of secondary school education plus formal training in a communication, or information management-related area

      Experience

      • Minimum of five years of office support work experience, the majority of which relates to communication or information management support services. Experience in national and international multimedia communication activities, including social media, digital, video, audio, and print formats is required. Experience in communication in development projects implemented by national/ international NGOs/ UN agencies is an advantage.
      • Proven experience implementing communications strategies through a variety of means, such as traditional, digital, social media, and storytelling.

        Languages

        Excellent knowledge of English and working knowledge of Arabic languages, written and spoken.

        Competencies

        • Good knowledge of communication and/or information management principles, multimedia techniques, platforms, and concepts.
        • Ability to distil complex topics into simple and compelling formats, including ability to code and classify information in accordance with standards.
        • Ability to tailor communication for specific audiences.
        • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
        • Demonstrate collaborative and teamwork experience.
        • Ability to work independently, quickly, precisely, and take initiative and responsibility.
        • Accuracy and attention to detail and skills in the design, layout, and formatting documents.
        • In-depth awareness and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
        • Ability to communicate sensitively, effectively, and creatively across different constituencies.
        • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including skills in researching and selection of information- Excellent knowledge of print, audio-visual and online processes.
        • Knowledge of planning and organizing events.
        • Excellent drafting web content in English and Arabic.
        • Good understanding of the working practices of national and international media.
        • Knowledge of modern communication principles, techniques, and systems.
        • Ability to foster effective two-way communication and understanding and to manage and impart information to a varied audience.
