About this position
We are looking for a motivated, high-performance person with teamwork skills to fill the position of Climate Change Operational Consultant in Brazil.
As a Climate Change Operational Consultant, you will promote and deliver mainstreaming of climate change mitigation and adaptation as well as sustainability considerations in IDB operations across all sectors, while ensuring compatibility with the goals of the Paris Agreement (AP). Likewise, you will support stakeholdersโ management and the development of capacities to advance the public policy dialogue around the implementation of Brazilโs Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and National Adaptation Plan (NAP). All this with the aim of facilitating a better understanding of the opportunities and risks of climate change in relevant sectors, and enhance development effectiveness.
You will work in the Climate Change Division (CCS) part of the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Sector (CSD) department. This team is responsible for advising IDB management and developing policies, strategies, operational guidelines, and programs on issues relevant to the sector, as well as related areas. In addition, CSD carries out relevant sector research, analytical work, sector practices and case studies on climate change and sustainability. As a division of CSD, CSD/CCS provides support in the mainstreaming of climate change and biodiversity, and sustainability in: (i) operations of the IDB Group and (ii) the dialogue with the regional member countries of the IDB Group, through support to the ministries of environment, planning, and economy and finance of the region. Both axes share the objective of strengthening climate policy at the subnational, national, and regional levels. In addition, CSD/CCS provides technical advice, concessional financing and helps mobilize private financing to implement climate change plans.
What youโll do:
ยท Contribute to managing a climate change mainstreaming program in Brazil that is consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement and contributes to Brazilโs Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and other relevant policies linked to climate change national commitments;
ยท Develop technical inputs to identify Country Development Challenges (CDCs) related to the transition to climate resilient and low greenhouse gas (GEI) pathways in Brazil, so that these can be addressed in the IDB Country Strategy (CS);
- Provide technical input to design, prepare and implement of operations and climate-related non-financial products across a variety of sectors in Brazil that respond to country and stakeholder needs;
- Provide support to project teams in the application of the Joint MDB Assessment Framework for Paris Alignment and IDB Groupโs own implementation approach of Paris Alignment in its operations, and linking this assessment with the potential for climate finance, green finance and nature-positive investments within Brazil;
- Coordinate logistics and develop materials to support IDB Group capacity building in the country office regarding these agendas;
- Monitor and support the implementation of climate-related activities during the execution phase of operations;
- Support any other related activities required by the Climate Change Division of the IDB.
What you'll need
- Education: Master's degree in environmental sciences, economics, political science, international development, natural resource management or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
- Experience: Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with the development of climate/sustainability-related analysis as well as the design and execution of projects that contribute to low-carbon and resilient development (mitigation or adaptation) in Brazil is required. Experience working with multilateral institutions and preparing projects including both for the public and private sector on climate change, ideally with international sources of climate finance is desirable. Must have an advanced understanding of climate change and sustainability issues in Brazil.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required. Spanish desirable.

Requirements:
ยท Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Brazil or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Brazil.
ยท Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
