Summary of key responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Programme Manager, the Capacity Development Advisor (SALW) is specifically responsible for:

  1. Supporting the implementation of the SALW (Small Arms and Light Weapons) action plan

  2. Stakeholder Coordination and Relationship Building

  3. Strategic Policy, Advice, and Advocacy

Requirements

Education:

  • Masterโ€™s degree or equivalent with 7 years of relevant experience; or

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree with 9 years of relevant experience; or

  • Military Experience (or relevant Police Experience) at the Senior NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) or Officer level (or equivalent) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in advisory and coordination roles in either emergency or post conflict environments. This is required.

  • Experience in institutional or military advisor roles in fragile states is required;

  • Experience in SALW, SSR and National Commission on SALW is required;

  • Knowledge of the International instrument and conventions on SALW is desired;

  • Knowledge of the UN system and procedures is desired.

Languages:

  • Fluency in French and English (speaking, writing and reading) is required.
