The Business Development Manager (BDM) is part of the Grants Development Unit and has two main agendas:

  • support coordination of the proposal development pipeline within the Grants Development Unit (50 %)
  • support business development for Asian country program (50% of her/his time) in close coordination with Asia Regional Director, Desk Officers and Country Directors

The BDM works under the supervision of the Head of the Grants Development Unit and in close collaboration with Regional Director for Asia, in line with PIN’s Relief and Development Department strategy for 2017-2021. The BDM is part of the Knowledge and Learning Department, a dynamic team of technical and program development advisors.

Main responsibilities:

For the Grants Development Unit

  • Map proposal being developed in close coordination with Desk Officers and Regional Directors
  • When requested, BDM will support proposal development, her/his tasks will include:

o Develops proposal calendar, constitute and lead a team of staff in preparation and production of proposals, consequently develop either full proposals or their parts based on the agreements
o Ensures proposed action is in compliance with the donor´s requirements and strategic priorities, as well as the priorities of People in Need
o Coordination and communication with selected donors
o Lead and/or support partner negotiations including teaming and pre-bid agreements
o Coordinates required technical inputs, with other PIN units (especially Knowledge & Learning)
o Ensures a full and timely submission of a complete proposal and annexes

  • Contributes to ensure institutional knowledge about solicited projects and donors´ requirements and priorities
  • Contribute to build the capacity of HQ and country-based staff on business development
  • Performs a variety of other related duties as required

For the Asia region:

  • Closely follows all proposal development processes in the Asia Region (6 countries)
  • Support proposal development process for the Asia Region (similar to above)
  • Contributes to the diversification of funding from institutional donors for Asia Country Programs
  • Develops relationships with existing and new partners/donors/organizations relevant for Asia Country programs

Requirements:

  • Proven experience with development of a successful proposal and a sound knowledge of donor´s strategy/policy framework, contractual formats and templates, especially related to Asian context
  • Reliable communication with institutional donors and the ability to build positive relations
  • Have the ability to both coordinate different teams and participate in different team environments
  • Become familiar with PIN programs, best practices and identifying innovations
  • Proven track record of success in securing funding through competitive proposal submissions
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to perform under time pressure, have flexibility, work independently, manage multiple tasks and work effectively in fast-paced and multi-cultural environments.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for writing and an ability to formulate clear, understandable and logically structured text
  • Motivation for work in development cooperation
  • Valid work permit for Czech Republic (does not applies to EU citizens)

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience developing and managing complex proposals, presentations, and proposal preparation processes, especially in Asia
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with an eye for proposal messaging, themes, proposal aesthetics and content
  • Experience in the NGO sector or donors' agency
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
